Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

So how do you 'adjust' your EDD when you book in, if your cycles aren't standard issue? And when am I due anyway?!

I'm really confused about this so I hope someone here has a straight and very dumbed down answer for me Grin

Basically my LMP was 12th April. Based on BBT charting, OPKs etc I ovulated/conceived on 22nd April, so CD11.

I've got to book in with the Dr this week and though he is a sensible chap, I don't want to get it wrong and be due on the wrong day.

I've got it figured out at about 12th January...but what should I say to him, and have I calculated it right?

Any help very much appreciated as I don't do maths! Smile

Ps cycles vary between 23 and 27 days...

Tell him what you've said there.

It won't matter anyway, at your dating scan they'll calculate a date and work to that pretty much regardless of whether you agree with it or not Wink

RightUpMyRue · 07/05/2012 16:48

Going by your OV date your due date is Sunday 13th January.

Going by your LMP your due date is Thursday 17th January.

Tell the GP that you know when you OVed because you chart. You'll probably have to keep on repeating this throughout your antenatal care, anything out of the norm throws most people!

Congratulations BTW Smile

Call your CD11 CD14 instead and work out what date CD1 would have been based on that (i.e. 3 days earlier). If you give that date as your LMP (9th April?) it is likely to be more accurate. The standard cycle etc assumes ovulation on CD14.

You don't have to have a dating scan if you don't want one, nor do you have to agree an EDD you disagree with it.

By an LMP of 9th april the NHS calculator gives an EDD of 14th Jan, so your baby is due roughly between Christmas and the end of Jan (normal pregnancy lasts 37-42 weeks).

Congratulations!

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you for roughly correct though conflicting dates Grin - I appreciate your trouble.

Fliss that is a great thought, the 12 weeker should tell us when, shouldn't it? Judging by how sick I feel at 4+2, I am convinced it's already 8 weeks...I know it can't be but hmmm.

Yes, the 12 week scan is a dating scan. Not much point using anything other than the standard LMP method before then, in my opinion, as they will use the date from the scan regardless.

piprabbit · 07/05/2012 17:02

Tell them what you like. They won't believe you whatever you say.
They didn't believe me even though it was an IVF pregnancy with the egg collection/fertilisation date being a matter of record on my notes from the clinic.

Babieseverywhere · 07/05/2012 17:04

LOL, you can't adjust your EDD. The hospital will go off their scan date estimation made at your first scan appointment and consider that set in stone.

They are 10 days out with my date with this pregnancy but they prefer to stick to their own inaccurate date.

PestoPenguin · 07/05/2012 17:20

I adjusted my LMP with my last two pregnancies, so yes it can be done Smile.

With DC2 my 12 week scan agreed precisely with my dates. With DC3 I declined the dating scan, so they went by my dates. This time I gave them an ovulation date and couldn't remember my LMP. That was genuinely true, as I didn't book in until 11 weeks. I also declined a dating scan this time, so again they're going by my dates.

This might sound mad, but with DC1 I was induced at 40+10 because he was 'overdue'. By my reckoning it was actually only 40+6, and at that stage it would have made a huge difference. the hospital policy was to stick with LMP unless the scan date was different by 5 days or more, which it wasn't -though it did concur with my dates. I took the advice of the booking in MW who said that by the end I'd just be desperate for baby to arrive and an earlier date was better because then they'd induce me sooner. In hindsight this was stupid, as induction was dreadful and I wanted a more natural birth. However, at 12 weeks when this decision was taken, I hadn't done any reading and knew nothing. By 40 weeks this agreed EDD was taken as THE LAW, even though it was still inaccurate Hmm. Cue massive scaremongering by HPs about 'going overdue' and stillbirth risks. Hence my different approach to the issue in insubsequent pregnancies Grin.

PestoPenguin · 07/05/2012 17:23

I should add, for me having a more accurate date on my notes is less stressful than arguing the toss at 41+ weeks when they lay on the pressure for sweeps and inductions etc. DC3 was born at 40+9 by my dates (or 40+13 by actual LMP), so those few extra days grace did save a lot of stress.

Flightty · 07/05/2012 18:08

Thanks all...I did try and explain, I vaguely remember, last time but no one was interested...I just got the raised eyebrows while writing thing, ignoring me completely.

With these dates though it'll be the other way to yours, Pesto - they'll think I'm only 40 weeks when I'm actualy 40+4 iyswim, so it might work in my favour.

I'm amazed they even disregard IVF dates!

As you're saying though it's probably best to wait till the scan, and I do want to have one, before deciding whether to get bolshy or not Smile

(whispers.... ) adjust your LMP date so that it looks like you O'd on nice, regular CD14 as they all seem to expect you to... Then tell them this 'new' LMP date that you know corresponds to your O date.

In other words, lie Grin

(I have short cycles and O'd on CD 11 but the only reason the doctor believed me was cos this is DC3 and he's been my doc for the past 2 and knows I am a Very Sensible Person... Also the scan corresponded exactly to what I told him - ta dah! But if this is your first, they can't know from looking at you that you are Very Sensible so..... adjust your notions of truth-telling!)
