Hey all, I am 15+5 with DC3 and for the last 4 days have had excruciating pain when trying to sleep, getting up from sitting position, bending down etc, shooting pains in my bottom that are just unbearable, pain in my left hip, not seeing my GP until Thursday :( is there anything else, besides paracetamol I can take for this bloody pain ??

Do you mean pelvic girdle pain? I didn't know what PGP stood for had to Google it, is it the same as SPD, symphysis pubis dysfunction?

I haven't suffered with it myself so I am not able to help much, but my reply may keep it near the top and someone more useful than me will be able to assist I'm sure!

Not sure what your other pain relief options would be besides paracetamol, until you see your GP - can they not bring the appt forward rather than waiting nearly a week?

Does indeed sound like PGP, sorry bout that. Not sure what else you can take, I've had it from about three months and the only thing that makes it easier is not moving. Try warm baths if you can bear to lay sideways, otherwise wedge yourself into a corner of the sofa and demand tea and sympathy. The pelvic partnership website has some good tips.

Get your GP to refer you to physio. My GP practice were not helpful for a long time and I think this contributed to it getting so bad. Mind you, my physio didn't actually touch me, just gave me crutches. If you can afford it osteopathy is supposed to work miracles. Good luck!

Sounds like it could be. I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago (am 33 weeks now) and got a quick physio referral thanks to private medical cover which is a perk of DP's job. Physio says it can only be treated conservatively so has mainly been giving me hints and tips for management. Things like sitting on a gym ball whenever possible, pillow between knees when sleepIng to keep hip & knee aligned etc. Physio also recommended a support belt which helps to stabilise the pelvis. I have noticed an improvement over the last week or so.

My GP prescribed co-codomol for the pain but so far I've managed to avoid taking them...I'm not one for taking pills if I can at all avoid it anyway but it's good to have them in reserve if the pain becomes worse.

It sounds like it could be PGP. I have similar pain, more in one hip than the other and it has been diagnosed as PGP, although I think mine is more related to a family history of hip displacia than the usual PGP. Could it also be sciatica (spelling???) - which I know nothing about.

If it is PGP, not wanting to disappoint you, but the doc is likely to do v little other that refer you to a physio so you may have longer to wait. The physio gave me a pelvic support belt which is great for 'pulling' in my pelvis/hips. One physio tested how far I could more my hips, which left me in agony and unable to sleep for weeks. The next physio however was great and essentially massaged my legs, massively relieving the pain.

There are things you can do to help yourself though before you see the docs. There is no magic cure all, the best cure is prevention by being careful what you do. As another poster said, look up the pelvic girdle partnership website. Carry weight evenly (no carrying a toddler on one hip, no ten pin bowling!), always stand evenly on both legs (e.g. Sit down to get dressed, never stand on one leg), keep your legs together (e.g. Getting in and out of the car), avoid pushing heavy things (trolleys, hovers). I find sleeping the worst. The things that work for me are to put an extra soft layer under my hip at night (I use a cot duvet folded up) and sleep with exactly the right size pillow between my legs (for me this is one chunky pillow, for others it is two pillows).

The physio also gave me some exercises to help, they definitely help.
