Wedding ring gender prediction......

Ok ladies I am a bit freaked out now!

I read about a fun concept for predicting your babies gender.... You take two strands of hair and place them through a ring / wedding band to act as a piece of string, then with a steady hand dangle it a couple of cm's over your left wrist. Wait a little while for the ring to settle and get into a pattern and if it ticks back and forth you are apparently carrying a boy and if it swings around in a circle the baby is apparently a girl.

Well I have just done this and it was clearly ticking back and forth (boy), being sceptical I then held the ring over other body parts and it either stayed still or gently went around (I guess signifying that I am female) when I went back to my wrist sure enough the ticking started again.

I then began to wonder if my sub concious was somehow playing a part in how the ring was moving so I tried it on two of my daughters and again the ring either stayed still or gently went around when hovered over them - they were oblivious to what I was doing, so I got them both to try it on me and low and behold to my utter amazement every time it was suspended over my left wrist it ticked again!!!

I'm no fool, I realise this is just an old wives tale and a bit of gender fun but I just thought it would be interesting to see if any one else has ever tried this and if it was correct for you either in the past or with this current pregnancy? I would love to know........ :)

Yes, it has been right for all 4 of my pregnancies and 3 of my friends. Was wrong for one though! Went round so thought she was having a girl, then she had a son. Only time it hasn't worked out right.....weird. Didn't really believe it could be right but after it had worked out correctly so many times, i was a bit shocked the time it was wrong! Blush

It told me girl when I was pg with dd, so was correct, and it said girl with this pregnancy, which is what the scans indicate.

You can also use thread, you don't have to use hair, and I have never heard of putting on your wrist, everyone I know has had someone hold it over their stomach. I think it has been correct or everyone I know, but I am sure it is wrong a lot of the time too.

Seriously? Confused Hmm

McPhee · 04/05/2012 08:01

My sister keeps wanting to do this to me.

I don't believe in this claptrap though Confused

Nancy54 · 04/05/2012 08:21

ha ha, a friend did that to me the other day - i'm having twins and it went girl, then swapped to boy!! So we'll see!!
I don't really believe either but it's quite fun...:)

KatAndKit · 04/05/2012 08:35

might as well toss a coin. Equal chance of getting the right answer.

But seriously, does anyone really believe any of this? The only way to predict your baby's gender is to have a scan and see the presence of a penis or vulva on the screen. All other methods (wedding ring, shape of bump, length of the linea negra, pissing on baking soda etc) are pure rubbish.

thereinmadnesslies · 04/05/2012 08:45

A friend of mine did this to me. She'd apparently previously correctly predicted the sex of babies for 20+ yrs. Anyway, she got it wrong with me, saying that I was expecting a girl when in fact I had a boy. She was totally mortified to have got it wrong and has stopped offering to pendle.

Nancy54 · 04/05/2012 09:55

haha. KatandKit, i don't think we do really believe in it, but it's just fun to suspend disbelief for a minute and go with it!

Flisspaps · 04/05/2012 10:01

OP other people say if it swings to and fro it's a girl, and if it swings in a circle it's a boy Wink

If it really worked, there'd be no reason for my hospital to charge £50 for a gender scan Grin

minipie · 04/05/2012 11:19

I don't really understand why people do this kind of thing but don't find out at their 20 week scan?

Surely you either want to know or you don't? Confused

cakeismysaviour · 04/05/2012 11:26

I don't believe in this stuff and am don't know the gender of DC2, but have given this a go just for a laugh. Grin

It says boy.

vlmnw7 · 04/05/2012 14:12

Thanks for your replies ladies.... It's not that I believe in it, just thought it would be a bit of fun!

I have four beautiful little girls already and have been given mixed results in the two scans we have had so far so just thought I would give it a go. I have another scan on Monday so we will see :)

Years ago a friend at work did it on me and told me I'd have 2 girls...she's done it a few times and always got the same result. I've now got a 4yo dd and a 23 week bump who has been confirmed as a girl by 2 scans. Wink

Old post, I know just curious if you put hair strand on sewing needle and dangle over the woman's belly would it do anything if not pregnant. My friend done it for a laugh over her belly and it was going crazy in a circle but she doesn't think she is pregnant. Has anyone else done this and had same results and wasn't pregnant?
