Is it possible to lose your mucous plug early without going into labour? (TMI, sorry)

A few weeks ago (I am 34 weeks now) I was in the shower and a clear blob of thick jelly-like dropped out. I didn't really know what to think of it, because there was no blood or pain or anything, so I just told the midwife next time I went for a check-up. She suggested I might have thrush, but two swabs came back clear. So now I'm wondering if it could possibly have been my mucous plug? Is it possible to lose it early and not go into labour and it not have any noticeable effects?

Yes, I lost my mucus plug literally all the time from 30 weeks. And I have just had my baby 5 days ago at 40+3, so don't worry to much, just watch for contractions or bleeding, I lost loads of mucus plug, and then a couple of days before established labour (was in early labour for 5 days) I started loosing bloody mucus.

Yes, happened to me two weeks before going birth. I fell in the river a few days later (was canoeing) and was terrified it would harm the baby, infection etc, but he was (and is, 14 years later!) perfectly fine.

Right - thanks! I shall avoid going swimming and baths. And falling in rivers :)
