Lack of movements

I am 33 weeks pregnant. Baby normally very active however today movement have been much less and ones I have had have felt much more sluggish and very gentle. Midwife is always on permanent answerphone and they go home at 4 so no point calling them. I am still getting movements but not as often and gentler. Should I worry. Have tried full fat coke and other sugary things which normally liven him up but not today

Could you wait until after 4 then call the labour ward? I'm sure if you're concerned then they'll want to see you.

My midwife gave me the number of the labour ward for any concerns as there's always someone there, could you call them? Or is there a day assessment unit at your hospital? You should definitely get it checked out as soon as you can.

I would call labour ward or go to A&E if you feel there is a real change in movements. they won't laugh at any concerns you have but will take you seriously.

I'd go and get checked - they can put a trace on the heart beat and, almost certainly, reassure you. Do get checked - you know the usual movements best and if you are worried you will be taken seriously. I have 4 children and with 2 of them had a dip in movements - living in different parts of the UK. Both times the midwives at the hospital were completely understanding and helpful. Two friends have had late still births and while is it rare, the NHS does take it seriously - if the baby is in trouble it's worth knowing now. But I bet all is well.

Yes call the labour ward.

When I had similar concerns with DS, the midwives on the labour ward were great - told me to come in and then they monitored the fetal heartbeat for a while.

DS was fine, but the midwives said that if I was worried then I should call them again - that they'd much rather check me out and it be a false alarm, than for something to be going wrong and me not go in because of worries about bothering them.

Had a mini battenburg which seemed to perk the baby up. Got home from work so going to have a rest and count movements to check he is back to normal levels and if not call the hospital. Baby suddenly feels lower so wonder if he has dropped and that is why it felt different.

Call the labour ward always better to check. You know your babes movements and in all likelihood it is just that they've moved but would still check.
