Pelvic Pain anyone?

Hello,

I am 28+5 and for the last week or so I have been having shooting pains in my pelvis, sort of straight up and down the middle. Mostly when I walk and quite often in the evenings but its not constant.

Has anyone had this or have any ideas what it is or how to help it?

Hello,
Not much advice to offer, but didn't want to leave you hanging as I've just started suffering with this too- mine are localised to the pubis, right at the front and are sharp shooting pains, just like you describe. Eye-wateringly sharp.
Have a look at this: [http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/physicalhealth/pelvicpain/]
It is normal and common, but worth getting some advice if severe.

Hi, yes me too. This is my 4th pregnancy and have had it the worst this time. Currently 28+6. I had a midwife app last week, she measured my hips and has sent off for a support belt for me. It should come in the post. Maybe you could ask your midwife to do the same. I know you can also be asked to be referred to a physiotherapist. I'm pretty sure they would tell you things like keep your knees together. So when you get in and out of the car, or bed, swing your legs around together.

My pain is concentrated around the pubic bones and varies in it's intensity depending on what I have been doing. But I can no longer sit on upright chairs! Especially wooden ones.

Thanks for your replies! Sorry you are both suffering the same but reliebed its.not just me.

A support belt seems like a good idea, I will mention it to the midwife.

Thanks again.

I have the exact same thing. At around 28 weeks I started to get really eye wateringly sharp pain in my lower abdomen. It usually happens when I'm walking and/or tired. My mw said it was pelvic girdle pain but sent me straight to hospital anyway, where the obstetrician also said it was pgp. Apparently the muscles round there become really soft and stop supporting the weight of the baby.
However, its not a good idea to get a diagnosis from your computer..I would go to your GP or wm just in case

It may be pubic symphysis which is horrific pain but eventually does away. It is because the pelvis is moving to allow the baby to grow and get in the correct position.

Thanks Mummy Luce and Perfectpins.

I was thinking its just another of those pregnancy things but it might be worth mentioning it to my midwife. I will give her a ring!

Def sounds like spd. I had it and it was awful. You must get it checked out as it can horrendous if left untreated! I saw a brilliant osteopath and went from being on crutches at 28 weeks to walking normally at 38 weeks.

There are very helpful support groups - I spoke to PINS who gave me a list of recommended osteopaths.

bluebean · 04/05/2012 17:34

Sorry, meant to add: www.pelvicgirdlepain.com is the site for PINS. Worth a look. X

Gah! www.pelvicgirdlepain.com

Hi there. I had shooting pains a few days ago and then a dull ache that came up from my pelvis and sort of around the side of my bump so I rang the midwife and she said it was likely to be ligament pain, which is where the ligaments stretch as they try and support the uterus. It is exacerbated by exercise, laughing and sneezing apparently!! She told me that as long as there is no bleeding or cramping then it's perfectly normal. Not sure if this is the same thing as pelvic girdle pain, as the midwife just called it ligament pain. She recommended paracetamol and lots of rest.
Hope it gets better soon.

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 04/05/2012 21:06

Bluebean, can it still be spd when its not constant? I am going to ring the midwife on Tuesday and ask her opinion.

Smicha, how are your pains now? Did the rest and paracetamil help?

Hi - I've not got it, but I've read here that it's better to treat early as it can get immobilising. Definitely talk to midwife/gp as soon as you can and they may be able to refer you to an osteopath who can help.

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 04/05/2012 23:14

Thanks haggis will get in touch with the midwife on Tuesday, don't want it getting worse.

In my case it wasn't constant. It was sharp occasional pains, often when walking downstairs or just turning a certain way. When I wasn't moving, it was fine....

Speak to the midwife, she'll prob refer you to a Physio. The best advice I got was: Don't accept that being in pain is a normal symptom of pregnancy - it can be treated.

fenellamae · 04/05/2012 23:24

I had this in 2 of 4 pregnancies. Support belt helped (but velcro comes undone noisily when you sit down!), as did physio. Midwife referred me to a pelvic pain group at local hospital which was run after antenal clinics.

It does go when you give birth, small comfort now I know....

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 05/05/2012 17:29

Thanks again everyone for commenting. I thought spd had to be constant pain and that this pain was just going to be written down to - one of those pregnancy things.

Now I know better I will give my midwife a ring.
