Hello,

I would value any advice regarding your views and experiences of baby carriers, there is so much choice and you could easily spend lots of money, which naturally I would prefer not to unless it the best thing since sliced bread! I'm planning on using the sling/carrier from as soon as is safe to do so

thanks x

Hello!

We've noticed that this thread is quite old now, and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks researching and testing baby carriers. Here is the best baby carrier 2019.

Hope this helps! Flowers

We've gone for this one: STOKKE MYCARRIER

Due in August so I'll let you know how it works out!

HaggisNeepsTatties · 02/05/2012 21:07

MrsLister like the look of the Stokke MyCarrier - and looks like it supports the hips properly - will definitely be looking at that!

There is a very good summary of the hip/back health issues involved in baby carriers here:
Hip Dysplasia website

lagoonhaze · 02/05/2012 21:21

The skokke my carrier is slightly more ergonomic but they advocate baby facing out with no recommened as it goes against the natural curve of babys spine. It is also very pricey and for that price there are better carriers out there.

Are Premaxx baby slings any good? I've been given one and thought it might come in handy now and again.

PlayEatSleep · 02/05/2012 21:43

I am really really clumsy and very very tired and I fell in love with my Mei-Tai. It is so easy, even I can manage it.
I got a Hop-Tye and it's just the best thing I ever bought (together with my Babyliss Big Hair Grin)

I had the wilkinet carrier for DS1 but only used a few times as the straps baffled me (too long so going to cut them shorter) - but I think I was nervous first time mum also. It was very very comfortable with a big baby. DH could wear it all day on long walks.
Determined to give it a better go second time around. It had such good reviews and has about 90 reviews on mumsnet.
Do also have fabric sling with a couple of brass hoops which is fine for around the house but when walking out and about DS1 did nearly slip out even though I always had my hand on the bottom. Didnt feel secure enough at all.

lagoonhaze · 02/05/2012 21:55

Premaxx one? Is that the bag type one? Google premaxx recall if it is. There were some major safety issues. Fatal I think.

scummymummy · 02/05/2012 21:56

I had a connecta and it was great.

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 02/05/2012 22:03

BlueandRed - please don't use a Premaxx. The bag type slings are really dangerous. There's an article here.

pickledparsnip · 02/05/2012 22:10

I had a Wilkinet which I adored. Got mine for about a tenner on eBay. It was a bit tricky to tie in the beginning & I had to practise with a teddy! Total doddle once I got the hang of it though.

Henwelly · 02/05/2012 22:12

I had a close baby carrier which was amazing!

meala · 02/05/2012 22:18

i loved my baby bjorn and my DC were both very relaxed in it.. I bought a sling like this style but I found it really tricky to use and my DC never looked comfortable in it. It may just have been me but it didn't suit us at all! After stopping with it I then read the article above about babies suffocating and was very wary about these types.

Just wanted to say that everyone is different and if you could ask friends to borrow and try them out before you commit you might find the best one for your needs.

Daisybell1 · 02/05/2012 22:47

We have a baby Bjorn and got on well with it. We also have a baba sling. I didn't like it when dd was tiny and practically forgot about it, but now she's over 6 months it's brilliant. It's my chuck it in the car and stick dd in it when shopping sling. Very quick and easy.

We've also moved into an ultralight back pack too, but that's because we live in a very rural area and I can then walk into town off road and put the shopping in the back pack's pockets.

Daisybell1 · 02/05/2012 22:49

To clarify, dd sits on my hip or front in the baba sling with the fabric under her armpits. I don't think they're dangerous worn this way.

RockChick1984 · 03/05/2012 00:57

For those of you who like the baby björns, have a look at [[http://www.roseandrebellion.com/ rose and rebellion] which have buckles (I actually think they are loads easier to put on than a björn type!) but have the correct support for baby's spine and hips. DS loves his, he's 26lbs and I can carry him comfortably on my front or back still despite not being strong!!

mummysue77 · 09/05/2012 20:29

We have a Babyhawk mei tai which my husband chose the design of. It spreads the weight so much better than the Bjorn that we used to use. Love it because we don't have to alter the buckles when we swap from person to person. Also have an Ellaroo woven wrap which our DD loves to be in. Does take some practising but is truly worth it. I love having my baby so close. Sling meets are well worth it. Enjoy!

PestoPenguin · 09/05/2012 20:32

Babyhawk mei tai or connecta. I cannot be doing with the yards of fabric involved in a wrap.
