That may sound like the most stupid thing EVER, but I'm finally getting organised (at 33 weeks!!), writing a list of stuff I need and it's all becoming very real. Feel a little freaked out all of a sudden. I am actually going to have to give birth to this baby!!! Anyone else feel the same?

Yes me! I am 25 weeks this week and it has suddenly dawned on me that I will have to give birth. I realise how stupid that sounds, but I have had 3 miscarriages before this pregnancy, so I have just been focusing on keeping this pregnancy going, and counting each day as a blessing. I have not really dared to look into the future, but now I am feeling more reassured, so suddenly I can look to the future.......and 'birth' has suddenly become very dominant in my mind!!

ellangirl · 30/04/2012 12:41

Calm down dears! You'll do it, because there's not a lot of choice in the matter Grin Ignore any horror stories and tell yourselves over and over that you can do, that your body is designed to do it, and that you get to meet those gorgeous little babies at the end of it all!

LordyLady · 30/04/2012 12:51

So true batteryhen I feel like I've been pregnant for ages and all of a sudden I'm nearly there - only three weeks until mat leaves starts and then....B day will arrive!! I'm really excited, can't wait for the baby to be here..it's just such a huge new thing isn't it! Congratulations btw, you must be so thrilled!

ellangirl indeed, there's not much we can both do about it now is there! It's true we're designed to do it. For me it's because you read and are told so much but you don't really know what it's going to be like until you've done it!

By the time I got to my due date I was desperate to go into labour.

The fainting, sleeplessness and baby-foot-under-ribcage pain had lost it's charm by then..

AnEcumenicalMatter · 30/04/2012 13:08

Lalalalalala...I'm not listening.

33 weeks and still firmly in denial about baby's exit plans!

ellangirl · 30/04/2012 13:16

To be honest, being in denial isn't such a bad thing. It's better than thinking about it all the time and worrying!

The3Bears · 30/04/2012 13:35

I have to admit I am much more scared this time around, Its nearly 6 years since I had ds1 and ds2 is due in Aug and im petrified now. I think its because I know whats coming Blush
Im 25 weeks now though so in a few weeks i'll be counting down the days until im in labour hopefully and just want to get it over and done with, it's not the contractions im scared of, its the horrible pushing sensation Shock But it is true what people say you forget all about it when you see your beautiful baby :)

vix1980 · 30/04/2012 14:11

OP Im so glad you started this thread, im 33 weeks today and thanks to the baby asda event i went into panic mode last week, having bought hardly anythig i strolled down the aisle (only as they keep the chocolate on the opposite side - is this a ploy to freak us out and panic buy more twis's, it worked anyway). i stood staring at baby wash for a good 20 minutes longer than necessary, came home and had a good cry to dp about how unprepared we were, so sat there saying over and over 7 weeks, just 7 weeks left, he smiled and said he had wondered when it would sink in.

ive been out panic buying this morning sudocream and newborn nappies like theres no tomorrow, i even started my hospital bag yesterday i admit it looks more like im going on holiday (mags, jellies, i pod, toiletries, nutrigrain bars and a nighty so far).
im not even thinking about the birth, i picture it all serene like with me wallowing in a pool while looking glamorous, ignorance is bliss isnt it Grin

LordyLady · 30/04/2012 20:32

I spent the afternoon eating chocolate to deal with my panic and now I've got a headache Grin. Had a lovely chat with DP when he came home and now I'm working through my list as a way to reassure myself...have already racked up an £80 bill and I haven't even started yet WAAAAH!

I heard the phrase 'ring of fire' today in relation to childbirth and now I can't get it out of my head. RING OF FIRE!!! Grin Grin Grin

GobblersKnob · 30/04/2012 20:43

Oooh 'ring of fire' is horribly accurate Grin Sorry.

You'll be just fine, astonishingly even those of us who have terrible births, go on to do it again, that's how worth it it is. There is nothing in the world like seeing and holding your baby for the first time.

vix1980 · 30/04/2012 20:46

Ring of fire??????

(must not google, must not google)

McPhee · 30/04/2012 21:03

another one in denial here Blush

GobblersKnob · 30/04/2012 21:05
(funny not scary).
LordyLady · 30/04/2012 22:02

Ha haaa!!! Now I've got the song stuck in my head too! You have to laugh eh...otherwise you'd never have got yourself into this situation in the first place Grin. No way out now except through the ring of fire!

Wolfiefan · 30/04/2012 22:09

Yes but it's over so quickly. I'd rather be giving birth than pg!

Hey vix. I was the epitome of pool glamour with my first (except for the noises I made). 2nd over too bloody quickly to focus on glamour or anything much really. Wishing you all wonderful births.

sharond101 · 30/04/2012 22:21

I am 36weeks today and still imagining the post man delivering my baby. I just hope I am home to take in the parcel or I may have to take my bags to the collection office!

StarshitTerrorise · 30/04/2012 22:24

I'm 33 weeks too, or perhaps 34 - who cares, it's never gonna happen!

StarshitTerrorise · 30/04/2012 22:27

Fwiw, I love the ring of fire bit!

Springforward · 30/04/2012 22:30

I remember the sudden onset of reality moment, too. The birth wasn't anything like as bad as I thought it would be - honest!

Pethidine and gas & air are wonderful things, TENS machines not bad either IME. I genuinely recall the birth as bloody hard work rather than pain as such.

Mind you, the look on DH's face afterwards told me that he might have benefited from a stiff drink or something before it all kicked off....

Springforward · 30/04/2012 22:32

Just read that back, now feel duty bound to report that my second dose of pethidine was less than an hour before the birth....

vix1980 · 01/05/2012 13:45

RE: Ring of fire.

I just googled Sad

GobblersKnob · 01/05/2012 14:10

Bless you, it's not that bad.

The thing to remember is once you get to that bit it is all nearly over.

Anyway it only lasts a few seconds then the stretching causes your whole fanjo to go numb, that way you don't feel the tearing.

Grin
vix1980 · 01/05/2012 14:17

I just know im going to have that song stuck in my head the entire labour waiting for it to happen.

I googled it and it came up with an explanation saying to open your mouth as wide as you can, then prize in your fingers and pull it open some more, i did as i was told and dp walked in and caught me wincing with fingers all up in my mouth.

he now thinks i should be sectioned Blush

LordyLady · 01/05/2012 14:29

Ha HAA vix!!! That's hilarious! Anyone tried doing a similar thing down below with the whole, well, 'hole stretching' shenanigans? The idea of it makes me hoot, I can't even reach my fanjo anymore and as for asking DP to do it? Pffffff!!! Does sitting in a bowl of almond oil count?!
