hello ladies!

Had my little girl just after midnight on Friday, was very traumatic I ended up with an emergency c section, I was in theatre being numbed for an arranged section and my babies heart crashed so they literally knocked me out and wripped her out! She's absolutely fine she's beautiful and happy and I'm feeling good, we're Going home later ;)

Anyway I started breastfeeding but she doesn't stay latched on for long and she's killing me by keep attaching, I've got blood on my nipples it's absolute agony so yesterday and this morning I've used breast milk substitute in hosp

I know know it's awful but all I have at home is a bottle and was gonna get some ready made substitute on the way home just to do us till tomorrow, can I run the bottle through the dishwasher after her feeds or use a kettle etc just till tomorrow?

Also what shall I buy, I'd like to try and express even tho we're struggling from the boob so do I just need bottles (how many) a stereliser and pump? Then if I decide to just bottle feed I can just disregard the pump?

Sorry I'm clueless plenty of midwives here but I like you lot more x

For expressing I'd recommend Medela swing but it is very expensive about £90. You can hire hospital grade dual pumps from the NCT for about £40pcm. I wouldn't recommend a manual (cheaper) pump as if you end up expressing a lot you will need electric.

We had 7 bottles so you only need to sterilise once a day. Sterilisers are fairly cheap. Our microwave tommy tippee one was £10 on offer.

It is expensive to get the whole capoodle but I wouldn't try to get buy on a few bottles and no steriliser. You will not get out of the kitchen with all the cleaning and you need to spend as much time as poss with your baby ESP if you want to try to improve her feeding/latch. Good luck.

first thing i would do is find the number of a decent breastfeeding counsellor in your area!
you can hire a hospital grade pump from the NCT, or from here which will be best if you're going to be doing a lot of expressing.

have the midwives given you any help with feeding the baby and getting more comfortable?
