Has anyone successfully used strategies (around diet rather than exercise) to limit pregnancy weight gain?

I'm only 14 wks, bad SPD last time. Under the hospital obstetric phsyio, exercise options very limited - this includes limiting walking, my pelvis moves too much already. Daily strengthening exercises/pilates tailored to my problem not really calorie burning tho.

5'9 and Size 12 now, but want to avoid excess weight gain and prevent aggrivating SPD more. Put on loads last time and never been fat! Trying to structure things with my diet to prevent me from eating badly and piling on the pounds, any things that have worked for you?

5'9" and a size 12 sounds quite skinny to me? Not sure there's much to it apart from cutting down on sugary and fatty snacks?

Thanks fluffy, yes OK now but got ginormous last time, I think it was not being able to move and yes probably too much cake.

I think I could do with structuring my diet a bit to keep myself in check. A ban on snacks and sweets is a good start you are right.

You sound about my size- I'm a bit shorter and a size 10, so you're a scaled up version of me Grin

Partly because I'm a lazy cook, and partly to make sure I eat one properly nutritious meal a day when pregnant, I eat a massive salad for dinner most nights- greens, shredded carrot and cucumber, avocado (good fats), tomatoes, celery etc with protein of either salmon, lean ham, hard boiled egg, chicken etc. Dress it with a little olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper. Very filling and not going to pile on the pounds.

For lunch I usually have soup or sushi with a cut fruit platter.

I wont tell you about breakfast as that's the bad bit Grin

I try to avoid refined sugar as it makes me feel crappy/ makes my early afternoon energy slump a million times worse

I put on 20 lbs with my first, and this one looks to be around the same

Richman - you are doing well, I am going to aspire to be exactly like you. I'm doing this:

B - Scrambled egg made with cottage cheese with salsa (no bread) or porridge and almonds

L - Bean Soup, or bean and lentil salad for lunch

Snacks - Apples or a milky coffee and dark chocolate

D - This is where it all unravels - whatever I'm doing for the family (trad british fare) and pudding(s) then sometimes snacks after

I know I'm getting in trouble later in the day.

Listen to your body if you are hungry its because your body needs those extra calories. Try not to graze constantly and don't eat if not hungry.

I have had to snack constantly in first trimester due to nausea but have not put on any weight despite no excercise so I think the body is just using up the extra calories (perhaps wishful thinking!)

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 30/04/2012 15:13

ok- let me make you feel better

Breakfast- fried egg and bacon sandwich on ciabatta and a latte Grin

farfalla is right though. If you;re hungry- eat. Just try to make it not empty calories.

I've been eating no added sugar Alpen for breakfast and then I'm hungry a little while later!
I thought muesli would fill me up!
I have been naughty with my eating habits so I'm hoping at 14 weeks I can undo the bad, buttery filled white baguette habit!

Hi

Try to eat regularly and healthily! Avoid sweets, cookies and cakes etc. ( of course there will always be the special occasion for a cake but keep it to a minimum.) I have already put on 9 kg. I am 23 weeks and I eat well I must admit. Prepregnancy however I was rather dieting on a constant basis combined with regular exercise to keep my model shape which I am loosing
( or better: which I have lost already) but I think pregnancy is the only time where you are allowed to put on weight. I love the fact that everyone around me loves me getting bigger!
