i have had a really painful throat for about 2 weeks. Got penicillin off doc who said it may be strep throat. He also said it is important to clear it up before birth as it can be harmful to me and also baby. When i asked him what he meant he said no need to worry unless it doesnt go then he will do a swab to confirm this. I have had 5 days worth of penicillin out of 7 and it is alot better but i would be lying if i said it had completely gone but maybe after 2 more days it will have.
Does anyone know anything about strep throat in pg. I am abit worried

i am 7 months by the way

I think he is confusing strep throat with strep B.

its a good idea to have a swab for this anyway - no point in having it until the baby is near its due date.

I copied this from a web site:

"WHAT IS GROUP B STREPTOCOCCUS INFECTION?

Since the early 1970's, the bacteria Group B Streptococcus (GBS) has been identified as the number one cause of life threatening infections in newborn babies.

This bacteria is normally found in the vagina and/or lower intestine of 15% to 40% of all healthy, adult women. Those women who test positive for GBS are said to be colonized.

Group B Streptococcus should not be confused with Group A Streptococcus which causes strep throat.

The vast majority of GBS infections are acquired during childbirth when the baby comes into direct contact with the bacteria carried by the mother."
