Weird spasm at top of leg/hip?

I won't describe this well but here goes. I am 35+5 and every now and again it's like one or both of my legs almost give way from the very top as they join to my hip. I need to grab something for balance. It lasts only a few seconds and is painful/uncomfortable. It's like something has gone out of place and it quickly fixes itself but I am worried it won't fix itself one of these times. It's mostly on the right side but occasionally left and sometimes both. Iam very very slight in build and have a huge bump. Any ideas what this could be?

I used to get this really badly towards the end of my pregnancy and used to dread going out. I was told it was the way the baby was lying. I had a huge baby who was lying face up. Nobody seemd very interested or concerned.

I got this with both DDs and it was very weird! As mentioned already, midwife said it was the way baby was lying, possibly on a nerve, that was causing the pain and weakness. When it happened I used to move around lots and prod my bump gently to try and help baby shift position!

Sounds like a sciatic nerve issue. This runs from the spine, through the pelvis & down the leg. You can get sciatica at any time, but it can happen as a result of baby's position. If it causes continuous pain or makes it difficult to walk often, it is definitely worth bring up with your MW. A friend of mine had this & was induced a bit early as it was making it difficult for her to walk.

I'm 38+4 and I have a similar problem and have had for the last few weeks. I'm pretty sure it's the baby pressing on the sciatic nerve - v painful but thankfully doesn't last too long. Def speak to your mw
if you're concerned. I remember a similar thing when I was pg with ds and it didn't go away until I'd had him - v much hoping this one will arrive soon!

Definitely sounds like sciatica. It is very common. Talk to your GP or midwife if you are concerned.

It will go after you have the baby. Some people get it anyway - without being pregnant. I'm one of those!

Might alternatively be SPD/ pelvic girdle pain?

It's so brief it's not that intrusive just a bit scary when all power goes from me. I will see MW on Wednesday and mention it then. Thank you.
