Consultant too busy to "palpate patients" - RUDE

Had my 36week check with a consultant due to previous PPH. She didnt seem interested in what I had to say/ask. I then asked her if she would feel the baby's positioning. and her reply was "I have 46 patients to see this afternoon, I dont spend my time palpating patients babies". - VERY rude.

I thought towards the end of the pregnancy they are meant to check that baby is laying the right way down, checking for difficult positionings etc. well atleast this was the case with DD (18m a go)

I will see my MW next week. Just needed to rant, sorry!

My advice....shout bad words into a pillow. How unnecessary, she sounds like a complete bi*ch!

Ive never had a consultant who did anything other than talk at me tbh, i wouldnt expect them to feel the baby. Thats what the midwife was for. Just my experience. She did sound very rude though!

Bedside manner sorely lacking, but I don't think consultants do much "touching" in the main.

We see a consultant for a health issue of ds's and the reg always has to do all the prodding, measuring etc before the (to be fair, lovely) consultant swans in for 2 mins and makes a pronouncement as to the next course of action.

Arrogant. I noticed that midwives get a bit of a bashing here, but my personal bugbear is arrogant doctors. I am a school teacher - chemistry - and have taught many prospective medical students. Most of them would I not like to treated by in the future. Actually, a medical admissions chap came to our school and told the sixth form that if they want to care for people do nursing, they want people with brains to become doctors. I can see the logical, but then you end up with some doctors that don't have the people skills.

@ Littlerayofsunshine: I've got my fingers crossed for you that you don't need to see her again in the future...good luck :)

Rant away, at my follow up appointment after disasterous birth the consultant all but laughed at my questions, she smirked, snorted and waved her hands at me.
My GP was horrifed and i went private and saw the best ob/gyn in the world (to me).

Some of them are just complete cunts!

mosschops30 · 27/04/2012 20:27

And some of them are amazing too Smile

My mw is amazing :)

I had a full check up by a consultant when pregnant with DD.

I will try to see my mw, but im pretty sure she is on leave now until after i'm due :(
