Aching, restless, cramping legs at night in third trimester

Please help me sleep! I'm 33 weeks and over the last week have barely slept at all due to being woken as soon as I drift off by my legs really aching and feeling restless, and then at least once a night by an excruciating cramp. I'm still working and my legs don't feel particularly achey during the day, but are a little swollen (blood pressure fine though). Know this is probably one of those pregnancy things I've just got to 'put up with', but has anyone had this and found a 'cure'?! Thanks Smile

Hiya, don't know about a cure but I'm 34 wks and have been having horrible cramps in my legs at night for the last week or so. Really painful in my calf, thigh and once my foot. The only thing I've been doing is trying to have a good stretch (of my legs/calves etc.) before I go to bed. Sorry not to be much help but I can really sympathise and I think it's fairly normal at this stage.

Magnesium and I think calcium helps. I got advice on mumsnet about drinking a banana milk shake before bed, basically a banana whizzed up in some milk. I really worked for me.! worth a try if you can stomach it.
I have also heard tonic water helps with the restless legs.

Hi I've been having this since week 16 been to docs as I'm now 26wks and he is testing my iron levels so maybe if u haven had your iron levels tested maybe worth it? I've tried banana milkshake didn't help :( but someone has said try flight socks as it will ease it a bit so still got to try and get into town to get some. Sorry not much help but know how you are feeling

I've heard a gentle stretch before bed works, and eat a daily banana to keep your potassium (or whatever) up. I'm in same boat though, achey more that crampy. I normally get up and go to the loo (always need to go anyway!) that seems to straighten and sort them out a bit.

I get this too - i find that reflexology helps and that a warm bath just before bed with my feet up on the end of the bath helps too...
