Hi all

I / we have narrowed down our pram choice to 4:

Stokke
iCandy Strawberry
Mutsy
Silvercross Surf

I've always wanted a Stokke but wasn't so impressed with it in the store and don't think it will handle walks in the woods but am yet to play with the other 3 so what are your thoughts?

GD

PS. I should add, price not a real consideration, 1st baby, due Oct, will be used for walks in the wood as well as commuting into London from Sussex. I am 5ft!

Just had second baby, I would recommend something with three big wheels, much easier to push off road. I have a big mamas and papas pram, but actually use my Hauck viper the most. Have a look at Phil and teds or Jane prams if you want to spend more on a proper off road pram.

belindarose · 25/04/2012 14:27

My stokke is lovely, but wouldn't use it to walk in the woods. I use a sling for that.

Casperette · 25/04/2012 14:51

We have the candy peach jogger, as to a few other members of m antenatal class, we all got it with the intention of going on lots of country walks. I live in the sticks, so it was essential for us that we got a solid pram with good suspension for the park routes. When looking around at prams, we found the I candy a lot sturdier than others.

I love the easy collapsibility of the peach jogger too, and it fits in the boot of our fiesta, something which the m&p prams didn't!!

Have fun pram hunting!!

Naisy · 25/04/2012 15:37

We have just bought the Stokke - but not due to Oct 2 so no use yet!

I think belindarose's suggestion is a good one. A friend of mine said her baby woke up whenever they hit pavement (as opposed to woods!) so they put the sling in the pram and used that when necessary...

Or just go for a beefed up off road pram! For me the Stokke's turning circle was a winner. I think it's the black cab of prams and manouvering in crowded places or shops will be super easy.

Good luck Smile

Should have said - I'm bored too!

Have no will to work...

GingerDoodle · 25/04/2012 15:43

Hey Naisy

I'm due 4th Oct! I know what you mean about the Stokke, they are beautiful but for the price I just wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be. Still I may end up with one!

I'm planning on using mine for coming up at down to London to meet my DH - i've never been great sitting at home and baby may as well get used to travelling lol. Hence it has to be good for commuting and woods.

I don't know about the others but I looked at the Strawberry and it's only suitable from 6 months. Is there a carrycot to go with it that I've missed?

I have the iCandy peach jogger. Know it's not in your list but with three chunky wheels it's great for when I walk the dog through fields, wood trails etc

VeronicaSpeedwell · 25/04/2012 17:46

Uh, justbuggies, there's something about you which makes me think you didn't just happen across that site while shopping for your 'partner's daughter'. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, though... Oh yes. Maybe your name? And all your other posts?

JoulesM · 25/04/2012 17:48

We use a baby jogger summit xc to go everywhere off road!! Beaches, snow, up and down stairs -the suspension is so good!!! I even run along the towpaths in Richmond. For commuting I'd suggest a baby jogger city mini or a bugaboo bee. I have the city mini and although it's great it's back wheels are a bit wide so some buses are trickier than others. I would say you don't get one buggy for both purposes and spending less on each and having the two worked really well for us. Baby two due in Sept and toddler will be just two so am in denial about our need for a double...I love our baby joggers so much I dont want to give them up!!!

blushingmare · 25/04/2012 17:53

AKMD - yes the Strawberry comes with a carrycot suitable from birth. We were really impressed with it and it's what we've gone for. Being delivered this weekend - excited Grin

ellangirl · 26/04/2012 09:23

thunderboltkid can you definitely get a versa with gt wheels? I think that would be my ideal pushchair.

Melliebobs Can I be rude and ask how much the iCandy peach jogger was? Just the actual pram, not the extras? I really want a 3 wheeler, and have got prices for everything else, but you can't get the price online for iCandys!

Hopingforastickyone · 26/04/2012 12:05

I am in the same boat only looking for a double!

We bought a Stokke for our first and here is what we loved about it:

  1. We used the carrycot till 3 months and the seat from then on. We have a very feisty son who refused to stay laying down once he knew there was the option of sitting. Most other pram seats are from 6 months which would never have worked for us. The seat has an extra padding insert for young babies and is very comfortable.

  2. The adjustible footrest is amazing. His feet have always been supported (even from 3 months -- so no dangling legs) and moves with the seat when reclining the child. This doesn't sound like a big deal but children sleep much better when their feet are up (as do we!). He is now 2 and still has plenty of room. The pram also easily fits my very tall 3yr old niece.

  3. We have used our pram in the mountains in Switzerland and in rocky wooded areas and never had issues. However, this was only with the seat. Maybe child would bounce more in carrycot? In Switzerland, my sister in law has the three wheeler heavy duty baby jogger and the baby definitely bounces around in carrycot despite supposedly amazing suspension.

  4. The height of the seat really makes a huge difference (it can also be lowered easily). When we go to museums or to the zoo, most other children are being lifted out of strollers to be carried by parents so they can see things. With Stokke, you don't have to do this. They are high up enough to see everything. The height really does make for a more interactive experience and i definitly notice my son pointing and speaking loads more when high up in comparison to our travel stroller where he is very low.

5)The shopping bag is removable so it's great to stuff shopping in and then you just bring it into kitchen without having to unload and go back and forth.

  1. All the seat fabrics are washable and removable which is a MUST for young children.

  2. Stokke customer service is fantastic. They give you a 2 yr guarantee with a one year extension if you register the pram (takes 5 minutes). They picked ours up for servicing before arrival of next baby and replaced wheels and did all the proper checks to get it ready for number two. All for free.

  3. Despite size, it is actually a very narrow pram so getting through small spaces is very easy. Its narrower than our babyjogger city mini!

  4. It manoevres so easily.

Negatives:

  1. It's a bloody heavy pram! Once you get the hang of folding it, it's easy but getting it in and out of a car can be a pain.

  2. It is expensive. However, it is very durable and customer service is very good.

  3. I found the pram felt quite long with carrycot. I got used to it but really only fell completely in love once our son was in the seat. Then it was really the best choice we could have ever made.

  4. To be honest, other than the weight and price, we have had no complaints and are having so much trouble finding a double that is as high a quality as what we found in the stokke. Nothing seems to compare.

Hope this has helped a bit!!

Best of luck

babypiffin17 · 26/04/2012 12:35

Hey I have the Silver Cross surf. I love it!!!

You get everything included, so you dont have to fork out extra for the raincover, parasol etc. The baby nest is great, my DD loves it, she always seems comfy in it. It means that she can go in it from birth. We quite often go walking around a local park which has wooded areas and the pram seems to cope well with it as well as paths. Its light and easy to put up and down. I didnt have a C-section, but you dont need to put any force on it so I would imagine that if you did have one it wouldnt be a problem.

We have the maxi cosi car seat for it because our seat belt wouldnt fit around the silver cross car seat but it goes well together.

It has the 2 baskets, which is helpful, not a great deal of room in them but they work for us. I also saw someone the other day with a buggy board attatched so if you were planning on using it for another baby then you have that option. Im small but my DH is 6ft6 and he manages to push it comfortably.

Overall a great pram for the money especially with all the extras.

Hope this helps.

melliebobs · 27/04/2012 07:15

thedetective hiya. Sorry I can't tell you how much it was cos we got ur as a bundle. Pushchair, carrycot, car seat and adapters for £710

The prices are on the iCandy site. There's a PDF somewhere with them all on. But I think for just the pushchair it's £595
Also worth following iCandy on Facebook. They r really quick at coming back with answers to ur questions

sedgieloo · 27/04/2012 10:28

I've got a stokke and there was nothing I did not like about it. Especially for the first year it is wonderful. It is such a lovely pram that you don't really want to take it out cross country tbh. There are many unique features, baby loved being up high and upright. It's not too bad on a rougher path, and you can put it on two wheels and drag it across the beach/gravel path, but if you then compare it to a proper all terrain pram the difference is extraordinary in terms of ease pushing up hill and on rougher ground and the experience for the baby (smoother ride) is massive.

After a year we bought a Baby Jogger City Elite, and I'm supposed to be selling my Stokke it is fantastic, not sure if I'd like to put a newborn in it, but you can. It is a totally different pushchair but if you are going to walk a lot and on rough ground you are going to want something like this.

babybrain3 · 27/04/2012 19:06

I got the icandy peach stroller second hand off eBay-immaculate condition for less than half the original price with some extra bits and pieces... Grin I love it!

fairtradelu · 28/04/2012 12:41

We're looking at a Joolz and an Uppababy Vista. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? Uppababy seems more practical but Joolz looks a lot more stylish/well-made. Probably not a good reason to choose a pram but we're leaning towards the Joolz anyway!

thefurryone · 28/04/2012 23:18

I have an uppababy vista it's a great pushchair, the carrycot is gorgeous and seemed much cosier than some others that we looked at. I haven't come across the Joolz but I have no complaints regarding the quality of the vista, it's pretty sturdy and very easy to use. It also has an awesome basket I can pretty much fit a weekly food shop in there!

The only thing I would say is that the second seat option isn't great, so I'm now going to have to get a different double for when DC2 arrives in September as DS will only be 17 months.

cmm · 29/04/2012 02:17

Hi there
We have a teutonia spirit s3 and absolutely love it! Don't see that many of them and hadnt heard of them until went in shop out of area. Its a German pram that They import. I had previously been looking at silver Cross and icandy but thought icandy silly Price and the teutonia seemed much more robust. Our criteria was good strong pram for long walks including off road (well rougher terrain!!!) and yet good being an urban pram too, also wanted front and rear facing, could lie flat too. Teutonia fitted all these things and not disapponted, love it!! Also got break fitted as extra on handlebar for when walking down hills which is worth it! Happy pram hunting!

lurcherlover · 29/04/2012 07:30

Love, love my stokke and wouldn't be without it. However, on country walks DS went in his sling when tiny and back carrier now he's 18 months - I don't find the pram to be great on rough terrain. Everything else about it is brilliant though.
