So I just had my 25 week appointment with the GP to be told that I am measuring big for my dates - 4 weeks to be exact Shock! BP and urine test both fine and at 20 weeks I was also measuring fine, but I do feel I have has a growth spurt over the last week.

I was measured by a doctor rather than a midwife - but this seems to be quite a big difference in measurement. Do you think this is anything to worry about or am I destined to have an 11 pounder...?

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I had my first measurement last week at my 28 week appointment and was also measuring 4 weeks ahead. I just wanted to let you know you're not the only one and I'm sure its very common!

My mw said they didn't worry about the first measurement, it's just a guideline and as you pointed out, it could just be that they happened to measure at the end of a growth spurt. They're more interested in the trend over time because babies don't all grow exactly the same amount each week. She said I might find at the next measurement that it's evened out to be much nearer the average. Also, do remember that these measurements are notoriously unreliable so try not to set too much store by them..

This is my first pregnancy so I'm afraid I can't tell you whether the measurements are right or not yet but I'm sure others will be able to let you know their experiences. I'm just hoping that it means our babies will be 'cooked' a little bit earlier and pop out at an average size with no fuss at 37 weeks Grin

Ignore it love. They know bugger-all. They said my DD1 was "a bit on the small size" throughout my pg. She arrived weighing in at 9lbs 8oz Shock.

A close friend of mine was actually booked for an elective section because her DC2 was supposedly going to massive. Because she'd had a hard time giving birth to her DC1 (who was tiny) they said she'd basically never get this one out because he was going to be so enormous (which is bollocks anyway - but that's another thread). She went into spontaneous labour the day before her ELCS and gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing...

6lbs 5oz.

And if they are not suggesting there's anything to be done about it, then there's no point getting het up.

Size of baby has little to do with the kind of labour you have anyway, so don't give it another thought.

Fat newborns are very cute, anyway... Grin (Biased? Moi?)

Oh and in my experience, DRs are usually far less good at measurements than midwives...

My midwife was measuring me at 5 weeks ahead using the fundal height hunny, told me that plotting it on the chart said i was going to have a 10-11 pounder! I was terrified because my sister was 10lb12oz and near ripped my mum apart, but i had a sizing scan at the hospital and was told he's measuring right on average! couldnt be more avarage if he tried! I'm due on wednesday next week and no sign of him yet, but happy to let you know how big he is once he gets here :)

Try not to worry and good luck hunny!

At around that point I was measuring 4 weeks ahead, I was measured by a student and the MW was slightly shocked so measured me herself to double check.

By the next appt I was measuring only a week ahead and continued to do so for the rest of my pregnancy.

DS was 9lb 7oz
