Do u have to wait until 12 weeks or can u get one done earlier?
I've just had my letter through for my date for my 12 week scan. It's another 6 weeks away and Im the most impatient person hence my asking ....

Unless you have a problem like bleeding or abdominal pain you will have to wait until 12 weeks. The NHS only has finite resources hence only 2 scans per person. However you can always pay to have a private scan if you want to!

You could pay to have a private early scan. I had one at 8 weeks, for reassurance as had a prev miscarriage.
Its around £100 though.

Congrats btw!

My private reassurance scan was £75.
What are you impatient about exactly? (Eg are you worried something's wrong?).

You can get one done earlier but the reality is that until 10 weeks or so, there is a greater risk that things can go wrong.

I had a private one done at 8 weeks. Reassured me for a bit but am still terrified of my 12 week scan the day after tomorrow Sad

It broke the time up though so would definitely recommend getting a private one while you wait if you can stretch to it.

I have known since 4 weeks and have my first scan on Friday, which is 13 weeks. The wait has been horrific. A friend is a week ahead of me and had an 8 wk scan and I'm so jealous. We thought about a private scan but decided the £100 would buy a good baby monitor instead.

I had a scan at 6 weeks after some bleeding and will be having another tomorrow after some more bleeding last week Sad

However, when I went for the last one, it seemed like it is possible to self refer yourself for a scan, and you don't necessarily need any bleeding, "anxiety" was a possible reason for self referral.

So in theory I guess you could rock up, tick the "self referral" and "anxiety" boxes and get an early scan. But I'd feel a bit guilty about doing that (waste of resources etc) unless there was a good reason for the anxiety eg previous miscarriages.

I'm currently waiting for my scan date as I could be up to 3 months gone their sending me for an early dating scan to find out how far I am and I have a possible prolapse so it's all a quick rush to see but still not going fast enough for me Wink

I'm so glad I'm not in UK! Over here you see the gynae and get a scan every 2 weeks.

Had my first one yesteerday at 5 weeks and got a picture of a black blob...

Two in 40 weeks seems like nothing... Sad
