mOh noes :(

37+5 and my mum noticed yesterday that my hands and feet were swollen. She is right; normally my wedding bands come off really easily and I can't remove them now. That said,we were out to lunch and it was really really hot inside the building. But Husband's just had another look and he agrees - I have sausage fingers and cankles. Phoned the hospital assessment unit and they said to speak to my GP/midwife tomorrow as they don't think we are talking pre-eclampsia but it needs checking out.

Waaaah! Getting an appointment at my GP is like pulling teeth and in the meantime I am freaking out every time I look at my hands. I've had proteinuria on and off since beginning of the third trimester and this is doing nothing for my rampant anxiety disorder!

At least this has galvanised me into packing my hospital bag but any hand-holding/reassurance would be much appreciated...

I had this in my 2nd pregnancy - wasn't any problem at all (other than adding to my overall bloated appearance) as I didn't have any other symptoms. Disappeared very quickly after birth. Didn't have it in 1st pregnancy and no sign this time either (also late pregnancy).

Did the assessment unit ask you specific questions ?

Your GP should see you very quickly if you say you have been referred by HAU. If not can you go to HAU instead ?

I'm 31+5 and my fingers are slightly swollen all of the time now - not sure if it's weight gain or fluid though! I've had the whole cankle issue a couple of times - first time I put took my shoes off and put my feet up on the footstool in the lounge, glanced at my ankles and feet and proper freaked out! However, they went down each time and it always coincides with a hot day and / or a salty takeaway!

If the hospital assessment unit seem okay for you to wait until tomorrow it sounds like there's no immediate worry - pop your feet up, drink plenty of water and do your best to relax.

Thanks so much ladies - seeing the GP later this morning to check everything out. Everyone's been very reassuring so I'm sure it's just one of those things but obviously best to get seen just in case.
