I'm 40+6 today, got to go to hosp at 8am on mon to be induced if my daughter hasn't made an appearance by then!

I know I won't necessarily have her on mon but it's my bday on weds and really fancy being in labour, I'd rather be sore but with a beautiful new baby!!

How long were you in hosp for if you were induced? x

EmmieA · 18/04/2012 20:56

Got in at midday, induced at 2pm, in full blown labour by 6pm, baby at 5am, out at 2pm the next day.

HamblesHandbag · 18/04/2012 21:03

gel at 7pm, contractions at 11.30, baby at 2.40am.

Good luck!

Sorry to hijack a little, just wondered if any one having chosen to be induced regretted it afterwards? ( I know most people won't have had the choice)

PestoPenguin · 18/04/2012 21:09

Yes, I did Sad.

40 +10 - Pessary 7:30am Wednesday. Labour started straight away and got progressively stronger. I was gutted when DH was sent home at 9pm.

40+11 - No room on delivery suite until 4pm.

40+12 Had DS 9:30am ish on Friday by CS.

Went home Sunday or Monday (can't remember).

Hopefully your DD will get her asap. If not take music, kindle, mags, snack food and drinks.

Emphaticmaybe · 18/04/2012 21:14

It wasn't that I had a really terrible experience, just regret not letting nature take it's course - silly have happy, healthy daughters.

TheOneWithTheHair · 18/04/2012 21:17

I went in on Monday morning and DD was born very late on Weds. Basically, Monday and Tuesday were boring, and Wednesday was when all the action happened! I was only 38 weeks though so it might take less time past 40 weeks.

I could have written this. Identical. :)

Flisspaps · 18/04/2012 21:17

I regretted induction. Lots of issues after which I suspect were iatrogenic.

Went in on the Thursday, waited until Friday am for a room to become free, drip started 1pm-ish. DD born 6.39 Saturday. Home 4pm Sunday.

PestoPenguin · 18/04/2012 21:19

Emphatic, if you want to explore induction regrets further maybe start a new thread on that topic? You might get fuller discussion and more replies Smile.

Sorry Pesto new to MN Blush

I was induced with dd3 at 37 weeks because of SPD. I went in at 5pm, was put on a drip at 9pm ish, had her in the early hours and was back home by 10.30am.

To be fair though she was my third and my cervix was open enough for them to break my waters as soon as I went in.

Good luck and baggy fanny vibes coming your way!!

JustHecate · 18/04/2012 21:26

4 days. Both times. on the 4th day the first time I was only one cm dilated. ONE bloody cm! Angry they ended up breaking my waters and putting me on that drip. that was at 9am on the 4th day. Had him late that evening.

second time round, same thing, he came at close to midnight.

I think if they hadn't forced them out, they'd still be bloody in there!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/04/2012 21:27

DS1 was finally born at 42+5

I was induced at 9pm on 25th, he was born at 4.45am 26th

cece · 18/04/2012 21:32

DD - induced Weds 9pm - born Fri 11.30 am

DS2 - induced Fri 2pm - born Sat 11.45pm

chullah · 18/04/2012 21:33

I was admitted at 42 weeks, had the 12 hour tampon type thingie (!) and then waited for 2 days for a bed in the delivery suite - grrrrrr. Eventually began the drip at 4pm at 42 + 2 and 5 hours later Little Miss Comfy was evicted!

Best if British x

went in at 9am saturday, had one pessary at 11am which started immediate and painful contractions, then was left til 12 midday on sunday when waters were broken and then drip put up within half an hour. Had daughter 6 hours later.

littlemissnormal · 18/04/2012 21:53

Went in at 42 weeks and took 4 days of pessaries to be able to have my waters broken with both DD and DS.

Really hoping DS2 comes on his own! They have changed the guidelines here though in that they start the process at 40+12 now instead of 40+14 as they did with me 3 years ago. Not sure why.

Twigletto · 18/04/2012 22:14

Pessary at 1330 and delivered at 2145 same day. Second baby though so that probably helped. My first labour was 72 hours! So I was delighted with the speedy version :)

MillyStar · 19/04/2012 07:21

Very mixed bag then!

I've started losIng my plug and got period pains so hopefully she will start on her own soon

Thanks for respnoses ;)

I went in with at 7.30am, had first pessary at 8.30am. Then started losing plug, was 1cm. Then checked at 4pm, was 2 cm so gave me another pessary as wasn't going quick enough. I carried on really slowly so broke my waters at 5cm, which helped a bit, was told I'd have my baby by midnight, I was still 5cm, was threatened with having to have IV drip as wasn't working quickly. I refused and did a major amount of walking, which helped loads and eventually had him at 8.21am.
So about 24 hours after first pessary.
My advise is be very mobile, definatly helped bring on the contractions and speed things up. They may be quite strict with that as they like very regular monitoring of babies heart rate when being induced, but I didn't want that, too uncomfy to be sat on a bed with them horrible straps around my belly. So I let them check him when ever I felt I needed a rest on bed, and wed make a deal, basically, they do it for 30 minutes, then I have a couple of hours off to do what I want. Even snuck off to the shop down the road from the hospital..but that's hush hush! :P
Good luck! ! ! Make sure you have nibbles..my mum made a picnic lol!

How Exciting Millystar, you may not even need to be induced!

I was 37+6 I think (first baby) but DS had to get out. I was told to come in at 7.30am so I had got up at the crack of dawn, called the hospital before setting off for some reason and was told to come at 11am! I was knackered but too nervous/excited to sleep. Finally got given a pessary at 6pm and was left to it - nothing happened. Then got woken up in the middle of the night for another one, which I thought was weird - it had taken me ages to got to sleep and then I was woken up and then everyone gets woken up at 7am! Anyway still nothing... Broke my waters at 11am, not a tweak. Finally they put me on the drip and it started immediately, although it wasn't painful at the start. The MW then doubled the dose every half hour or so and by 5.30pm it was all pretty full on at I was starting to lose it so they gave me a shot of pethidine. I was then only 5cm, but by 6pm I was 8cm and I suddenly "woke up" and started pushing, DS was born before 7pm. I was out the following day by 2pm.

So not that long really but DS needed more help because he wasn't ready, your DD is probably more "cooked" than mine so you may not need the whole thing.

Being induced wasn't that bad but I would like to avoid it next time as I would like to go in labour by myself. Also because the pethidine was given to me so close to the birth, I was off my face and I can't quite remember DS being born, which I think caused me to take ages to bond with him - although it could be due to other things.

Anyway, good luck and update us x

i was induced at 42 weeks. they gave me a pessary at 9pm and then i slept to find that in the morning nothing had happened, so they gave me another. by about 2pm things had started so they broke my waters and put me on the drip and at 7.35pm my little boy was born.

twinklegreen · 19/04/2012 09:23

DD1 was a spontaneous onset (10hr labour)
DS I was induced at 40+14, went in at 11 am, had the pessary at 1.30pm, in established labour at 3.30pm DS born at 6.50pm.
DD2 was spontaneous onset (4hr labour)

Good luck :)
