Line width on Clearblue Plus

QueenSconetta · 18/04/2012 13:12

Ok so the instructions say the lines should be a similar width to the control line BUT it doesn't tell you what to think if they aren't!

I have a visible positive line, but much thinner than the control line.

Up until now I thought if there was a line, then that meant it was detecting hcg and that was it but now not so sure.

Any ideas/experiences?

in my experience a line is a line!

I'd give a clearblue digital a whirl and see what that has to say!

I had a very thin very faint line on a first response and wasn't too sure either - currently 25 weeks pregnant!

QueenSconetta · 18/04/2012 13:49

Well that's what I thought but the instructions say different!

Did the other test in the pack, no line, and a superdrug own, no line. I also bought a super drug digital and managed to break it - what a waste of a tenner!

Might get one more and test with fmu.

Very unexpected result which why I am even more unsure!

it is true a line is a line iv had a few faint lines at the time thinking is it just a water mark but each time it was a positive, i dont rate clear blue preg tests tho i did digital one that said negative twice when i was actually preg. my advise would be wait two days so hcg levels go up and do the test with first wee when its strongest

terilou87 · 18/04/2012 13:52

ps lol check the strengths some tests can be done 5 days before a missed period which mean they can detect even slight hcg in your wee. i think clear blue is day of missed period not 100 percent tho

QueenSconetta · 18/04/2012 13:55

I am on the pill, so period should have appeared on Saturday/Sunday. Hence why I would very surprised as no slip ups I can think of. Very confused.

Aw you must be in such suspense. Did you use the same sample for each test? If not it could be your hcg level was weaker in the later in the day wees resulting in negatives. Either wait a few days and retest or buy a first response one - they seem to pick up a + quicker than other brands Smile

Flightty · 18/04/2012 14:02

Probably a silly question but is this test one that uses blue dye? If so I think that they're known for being much more likely to give you an evap line that pink dye tests.

Not sure why. Look on POAS.com for a gallery of evap lines, I'm sure that the thin blue lines on CB can be false positive x

Flightty · 18/04/2012 14:06

sorry, can't find gallery on POAS but if you just google clearblue false positives something might come up.

QueenSconetta · 18/04/2012 14:08

Yes it is blue dye, x.

The line did appear quickly though

After having read up on Clearblue, it seems these thin line false positives are quite common.

So altogether I've done 2 x Clearblue plus, 1 x super drug own and 1 x First Response now (this evening but haven't been to the loo for hours or drunk a huge amount so should be fairly strong wee!), and only the first clearblue showed the thin line.

Not even a sniff of a line with the FR, which is what I used with my DD and the positive line came up before the control line then!

Anyway so I am pretty sure now it was a false positive. I will never buy Clearblue again though - I've spent over £30 on tests today thanks to their stupidness.

I'm so sorry. Sad I hate the way women are ripped off for pregnancy tests all the time.

Especially when the manufacturers know there is an issue and still don't do anything to make them more reliable...I think they know that if in doubt we buy another, so it's not in their interests to make them 100% accurate.

Could be me being cynical but anyway...I feel for you x

RockChick1984 · 19/04/2012 10:25

I've only ever used the cheapy 2 for £1 tests, and they have always been accurate. I asked my dr once and apparently they are exactly the same, unless you specifically want something that will tell you early, they are just as good as clear blue etc, and wil still tell you from first day of missed period.

Just to warn you though, DS is sat on the floor watching noddy playing, and he was the result of no missed pills, and being on the pill for years with no accidents!!

susiedaisy · 19/04/2012 10:27

A line is a line IMO and the cheap ones are as accurate as the expensive ones,

confuzed90 · 19/04/2012 11:21

I don't like clearblue or first response..kept giving me negatives.. Tried asda and tesco cheap home brand and positive straight away

QueenSconetta · 19/04/2012 15:56

Thanks Flighty but no need. I am slightly relieved tbh as whilst I would desperately love to have another baby, it would be sooner than we had planned and I would rather it was planned iyswim.

I'm just cross we had all that needless drama!

Couldn't resist doing the other First Response in the pack this morning with FMU, and again no hint of a line at all. Damn Clearblue! However will enjoy wine tonight!
