Aww hun lol, large glass of fresh orange juice or as birdsofshoreandsea said lactoluse is fine

googietheegg · 17/04/2012 21:09

I had the same in the second trimester Blush

My top tip is to have some stewed fruit or dried prunes and sit up straight in bed with your knees up for as long as it takes to feel like you need a poo - usually within half an hour. Works every time!

Will invest in some OJ tomorrow.

I'm 32 weeks, so not much longer to go, excuse the pun!

Licorice worked for me (and it's v tasty Grin)

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 21:36

I feel your pain Blush.

I've been soaking dried fruit in orange juice over night, and added this to my morning porridge.

Also snacking on raisins, apricots, figs and prunes. Drinking orange juice and trying to drink as much fluid as possible - all just to help me along... :(

I've suffered from day 1 and I'm now 24wks.... I've not tried lactulose yet, might save that for the third trimester Confused

It is quite literally a pain in the arse!! Grin

cremeeggsrock · 17/04/2012 21:37

I second Lactulose! worked after 1hr, was huge relief Grin xxx

Toddle · 17/04/2012 21:49

Sending sympathies I'm 33weeks and I don't think I have had a normal poo for well..... 33 weeks. Get munching some kiwi's

I also got a little kids stool/step thing from tesco and I'll sit on the loo with my feet on that. it apparently helps with optimum pooing position. It also comes in handy when I want something from the top of the wardrobe Grin.

Prune juice helped me lots of it. Its not the nicest of drinks however def worked for me as I dont like taking any medication. Hope all goes well! :-)

SerenityNOT · 17/04/2012 22:03

Christ! I remember that...syrup of fig but take a max dose before bed and anticipate an early morning and do it when you expect to be home for the day. If you're truly desperate you can always try suppositories which work well but are very icky to use

Hpbp · 18/04/2012 09:05

dried prunes definitively. I had half of a pack the other day, just because I felt a bit constipated and also because I like dried prunes. Stupid me. Ate them in the office around 10am and at 11.30, started to feel stomach ache. Had to call OH to rush me back home and was absolutely fine once I got rid of the content; the whole process 2.5 hours... From now on, 3 dried prune, not more and lots of water during the day. Also for breakfast, bircher muesli to help keeping transit in good order.

milk · 18/04/2012 09:12

small cup of prune juice :)

HerrenatheHHHarridan · 18/04/2012 09:37

2 weetabix every morning and lots of water! Prunes on standby :)

HappyAsEyeAm · 18/04/2012 09:56

Lots of sympathy coming your way. I am on iron tablets, which is making it even worse for me. Thankfully, my only real craving this pregnancy has been fresh large oranges, which definitely help - though I probably need to have at least 2 every day, along with the rest of the fruit and veg I'm eating.

MyleeneCrass · 18/04/2012 09:57

3 dried apricots a day

exexe · 18/04/2012 10:13

Agree with prune juice. Works amazingly well. Too well sometimes.

ladymarian · 18/04/2012 10:53

I really suffered with this when I was pregnant with my DD so you have my sympathies.

I found that having a glass of prune juice with breakfast every morning (with a bowl of bran flakes if necessary) worked for me. Personally I found prune juice disgusting but it is brilliant for constipation and sometimes I even drank it using a straw so I didn't taste it as much!

Lactulose is safe in pregnancy and works well too.

Hope you feel better soon x

Midgetm · 18/04/2012 10:56

Anyone that can drink prune juice in the first trimester is an actual hero. Makes me gag just thinking about it.

geekette · 18/04/2012 17:15

Hate, hate, hate lactulose with a passion.

Prunes and oranges for me. Have never tried prune juice. Cook most meals with prunes when I feel the need and have an orange before bed. Currently at week 22 and constipation free.

Clandy · 18/04/2012 19:10

Aww Sad it's awful isn't it you gave my sympathies. Mine got really bad and lactulose worked a treat, combined it with prunes (which are very tasty) and sorted mr out still take lactulose and prunes a week after the awful event as still not right but it's def helping.
