Surely if it was off you'd know by the rancid smell? I eat yoghurt for about a week after I've opened it. It's probably OK.

Agree with PP, if it smells fine and is within the use by date it will be fine.

debka · 17/04/2012 10:14

They are mental. Fret not.

I just eat mine when I eat it, as long as it doesn't smell, taste or look off then I just assume it's ok... .Blush

I reckon most use by dates are so short so that people buy more frequently and waste more food in the process. I wouldn't go past it on chicken but with yogurt is definitely just use the sniff test.

I think with dairy products the use by dates are important, (can't remember where I read that I'm afraid) but if it's still within its use by and smells ok then I reckon it's fine.

Isn't dairy a high carrier for erm listeria I think? I know milk is so I'd assume yoghurt is to. But like milk, you can smell when somethings 'not right' and it will taste foul. So as long as it still tastes and smells ok then you will be fine. I think they say the "use by 2 days" to cover their backs in legal terms.
