Has anyone else developed a hairy stomach since becoming pregnanct? and if yes is it safe to pluck them out do you think?

Got hairy belly with both dd and ds but I am half Italian, so got a bit harier everywhere, my Italian relitives reasured me that most european women do, I plucked a couple and still have to because they came back in darker and thicker! The up side to this is that dd and ds like to lie watching tv or reading stories with theis heads on 'mums soft pillow', it still reminds me of the skin to skin from feeding them x good luck for the birth!XXXX

NomDePlume · 10/02/2006 09:23

Sorry to bust your theory but I'm a fine haired brunette (not very hairy in general) and my bump developed fuzz [mortified emoticon] and I had a GIRL

usandbump · 10/02/2006 09:32

Ah well that can give you hope oranges
Would have been a good theory too beats the string test!!

Be proud of your hairs!!! .....(do they not go afterwards then?)

Lacrimosa · 10/02/2006 09:33

Mine havnt and its been 6 years! I just have to live with it, cause im not adding it to my waxing list!

Squarer · 10/02/2006 09:58

Mine went pretty quickly

NomDePlume · 10/02/2006 10:02

Mine went when i finished breastfeeding, about 3 months after having DD.

BigHotMama · 10/02/2006 14:45

Lacrimosa - I have too lived with my big hairy belly since my early 20's and have it waxed regularly, it starts beneath the belly button and goes straight down into my pants and I look a bit like captain cave-man!

Newly-found-hairy-ladies - at least yours will eventually go...mine is for here for LIFE!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/02/2006 09:03

Although always hairy I got even hairier with my pregnancy. And it was a boy!
It's 4 months on now and it's basically all gone (except the stuff I had before of course!!)

Kabsy · 11/02/2006 10:29

No extra hairs on my tummy with DD always had a few stray ones from my belly button to my pants but just as BHM I wax or shave it. But on the subject of hair since being prg with DD and ever since I have developed unwanted stray hair on my chin!

Thell · 11/02/2006 13:38

I've had a few hairs from belly button to pants for a few years now, and had shaved them off because there were so few it was inconsequential. Since becoming pregnant though, they've multiplied and got much thicker and darker [sticks tongue out], so shaving has made them worse!

Not as strange as my belly button itself, which is now sticking out and has turned brown!!!

zephyrcat · 11/02/2006 13:52

I have the hairy belly problem too! I pull out as many as I can stand but they don't seem to be going anywhere! I has a girl then a boy and have been told this one is a girl too- twice!

I also started getting loads of spots on the tops of my arms - not big spots but little ones all over like a rash from a distance. Someone told me when I was pg with dd1 that it was because I had put on too much weight and they were 'fat spots'! Nice!!

Thell · 11/02/2006 14:52

Fat spots!
Rubbish!!
I have had those since I was a teenager. I read it can be a sign of a slight deficiency in Essential Fatty Acids (Omega oils) - which makes sense, as at the end of preg the baby is using all yours up to make a nice healthy brain. I'm taking extra Omega oils as well as Pregnacare - must say they seem to have gotten a bit better, as has the joint pain I started getting in my knees. (I checked with Doc first, but she didn't know anything about it really)

oaksey · 11/02/2006 14:55

I've always had hair from my belly button down to my pants, but have got more fluffy from top of bump to belly button more recently! I did the wedding ring test at work and it worked out as a girl! Perhaps she will be a tom boy! Need to prove my father in law wrong though, so fingers crossed the hairy belly-boy theory proves to be wrong!!

twisty · 11/02/2006 18:29

Hi Oaksey
I did the ring test at work too and said my first baby would be a boy - don't believe in anything like that really but my friend does it on everyone who is pregnant at our place and has only ever been wrong once!

And Kabsy I have got one of those stray nasties on my chin too which I seem not to notice until it's really long - what is all that about? It's just a single horrid hair that I pluck out as soon as I notice it.

i had hair on my bump and i had a girl but she is my 2nd girl and i didnt get any hair tyhe first time.

jinglybits · 12/02/2006 00:50

got hairier below the belly button...had a boy! i put it down to testosterone floating around my body! ...didn't pluck because thought it might make it worse, create a cycle...still hairier than pre-pregnancy...am i the only one to admit that...although it has receded a little and doesn't come as high up! omg what am i saying!

Pip · 12/02/2006 08:40

These usually disappear after birth, I wouldn't pluck them out incase they come back stronger. Mine disappeared completely and I am dark and quite hairy.

calebsmum · 12/02/2006 21:12

Also had a very hairy belly whilst pregnant and had a little boy. Don't worry it does all fall out afterwards although it does take a few months!

PotPourri · 13/02/2006 11:03

I had a hairy belly. I bleached at first, until I realised that a huge tummy was not that much of a selling point in the first place, so I just gave up on it. I did have afew stray dark hairs at my belly button pre baby - which is why Ihad the Jolen dye. It has cleared up I think since I had my GIRL a year ago, but then, my belly is covered in stretch marks and a bit saggy - so bikinis are soooo out of the question that TBH I wouldn't notice much now anyway. Am pregnant again, and no hairs this time - I wonder if that means anything - might just be that I don't notice this time though, as my tummy button is quite odd looking this time...

BigHotMama · 13/02/2006 13:57

Kabsy & Twisty, I too have the random chin stubble, and since my teenage years I've been plucking hair out of my cheeks,(mm yum) I just know I'm gonna be one of these old ladies you see with grey long whiskers...My DH aint impressed when he sees me plucking 'em! Maybe I should have been a boy??

Amiable · 13/02/2006 22:57

Thank goodness I am not the only one! I've got a good carpet of fine hairs all over my belly and really just thought I was a freak of nature - turning into the amazing wolfwoman, that sort of thing!! Not sure about the sex of the baby - delberately not finding out until it's born, which will be in the next few weeks, but everyone thinks it's going to be a boy (funny how everyone suddenly turns into a psychic when you're pregnant, isn't it?!)

bigbaubleeyes · 14/02/2006 01:30

LOL and relief - is it appropriate to raise the issue of hairy nipples too - sorry for jumping in if someone already has mentioned these!!

Fighting body hair is a pain and an ongoing battle I think - but its true I think men never really notice it
