wow
both of mine were 42 and I did read about this happening...

pupuce · 08/02/2006 14:34

Well it would happen more often if inductions were not routinely done of course.

Mine was 44... HUGE arguements over dates. She was clearly well overcooked by the time she appeared.

Not wanting to go that long again... probably because I've had so many of the "dangers" drummed into me since that pregnancy that I am wary, regardless of how convinced I am that all the dangers are real.

Maybe you'll like the article???

my mate went 42 weeks + and she agreed with the hospital that she would come in every day to e monitored. It seemd a good compromise

My mother had my brother at 43 weeks after she insisted on an induction (the rest of us all born without intervention at 42 weeks). That was in the 70s, mind.

I had my dd at 42+6 having been first induced at 38 weeks! she just didnt want to come out! I had a monitor at home to trace the heartbeat for half an hour each morning which you then plugged into the phone line and sent to the hospital. Their day assessment midwife checked it every morning and then called me to let me know if it was ok. Finally went into labour after (over the course of 4 weeks) 12 prostin pessaries; 1 cancelled caesarian; 9 stretch and sweeps and (on the final day) one consultants arm inserted into my birth canal up to the forearm to assess the size of my pelvis (that did the trick and put me in labour.

Ended up with emergency section the day after! However, this time I'm having an elective section at 38+5 so will be pregnant for a whole month less than last time - praise the lord!

Enid · 08/02/2006 18:46

oh god I dont want to know

still 11 weeks to go and it feels like 11 years

pupuce · 08/02/2006 19:02

Pupuce - I am due to be induced tomorrow afternoon - but will be 11 days overdue - apparently my hosp routinely induces at 12 days over. DD1 was 8.10 and I think dd2 may well be bigger. DD1 was 9 days late but did come naturally - 3 days before she was due to be induced.

However, if I don't have a high Bishops score I am going to ask to wait but am fine about being monitored - if this usual and/or wise?

brimfull · 08/02/2006 19:17

my dd was 42 3 days, was induced and well overcooked

hotmama · 08/02/2006 19:36

bump

Laura032004 · 08/02/2006 20:58

When DS was delivered I was 42+5. I was told at that point that my placenta was 'gritty' - I took this to mean that it was on it's way out??? DS looked like he was a post-dates baby apparently - I just loved his lovely long nails

pupuce · 09/02/2006 09:54

Sorry - just saw this so maybe too late ????
Yes do find out your bishop score.
As I always say you are cpmpletely within your right to decline... and what I always find "incredible" is the support women actually get when they decline... a sort of "Yeah that's fine..." when you thought you might not actually be allowed. As long as you are monitiored (by scan too) you are being reasonable. I think NICE says to do this actually.

Hopefully, things are naturally moving as I have just had a bloody show and keep on being dischargy - sorry if TMI Also, feel very periody painy and have backache - which I take as a good sign.

Will ring the labour suite this afternoon about being induced - hopefully they will be happy to let things happen naturally.

pupuce · 09/02/2006 12:43

I am sure they will.... good luck !
Sounds promising !

I must be a complete weirdo then - I BEGGED the hospital to induce me at one week overdue with second baby! I was 11 days over with DD (first baby), had long tiring labour and she was 8lb 4 - when preg with DS, went over again and was convinced he was going to be an enormous baby who would rip me to shreds (sorry) if they didnt induce me the day after I was due! Phoned my MW sobbing hysterically when i got home....

Needless to say, was told to calm down and go home - ended up being induced 10 days past due date and had very quick labour, with no being ripped to shreds
