16 weeks.

I'd gone from a B to a DD/E.

When the woman said to me 'wow, how far along are you?' and I told her she laughed in my face and said 'we'll see you back in a few weeks then!'

Loislane78 · 13/04/2012 21:20

When my (.)(.) stopped fitting in the old ones, happened a couple of times already at 21 weeks.

McPhee · 13/04/2012 21:21

By 12 weeks I went from a 34B to a 36DD.

I'm 28 weeks now and so far I haven't had to buy any bigger ones.

coffeelover01 · 13/04/2012 21:22

I am 16 weeks and only have 1 bra that now fits. So I guess its time.

34C not B Blush

keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 13/04/2012 21:25

I think the general rule is as soon as you start to feel uncomfortable in your normal ones. Underwires rest right on the milk duct apparently so I think they are best avoided as much as possible and switch to cotton maternity bras.
Nursing bras you get measured for about 2-4 weeks before due date iirc

Thechick · 13/04/2012 21:33

I was curious about this same thing. Wasn't sure if you had to get non wired ones straight away, and if that was the case, you'll have about three sets of bras by the end of your pregnancy.

JimbosJetSet · 13/04/2012 21:40

With my first pregnancy I went out and bought the non- wired bras, but I felt dreadful in them, they offered no structure or support. So I swiftly went back to my usual underwired, slightly padded jobbies (in my new size). I BF DD successfully for 15 months Grin I think opinion is divided on whether underwired bras are a problem for milk ducts etc. in my experience, they caused no problems whatsoever Smile

southlundon · 13/04/2012 21:52

I didn't have to. My boobs never got bigger - in fact I actually went down a cup size because my boobs didn't get bigger my as I got fatter my chest measurement increased. Was very disappointing and I'm sure it had something to do with breastfeeding not working for me and DS. (I'll probably get put right on that by others though!)

southlundon · 13/04/2012 21:53

*my should read but

CamelKnees · 13/04/2012 22:01

First new set at about 7 weeks. Then every freaking 4 weeks until about 30 weeks! Went from a B to an F !!!

Re underwires I am reliably informed that the trick is making sure the underwire is big enough so that it sits around the outside if the breast -especially under your arm - rather than pressing on the breast tissue.

Flisspaps · 13/04/2012 22:20

Properly fitting underwired bras are fine Smile

pickledpeppers · 13/04/2012 22:28

I am 36w and my boobs haven't changed in size, I'm fairly big busted anyway so have stayed in my underwired bras throughout. I checked with mw and she said it's best to be in a well-fitted supportive bra than to abandon underwired. There are no wires in my bras where the milk ducts are (at the side of cup bit).
Today I went to be fitted for a nursing bra and bought one, I have to say I'm dreading wearing it, I'm a 36H and it's so unsupportive I nearly cried when I tried it on, but I know it's a necessity, I will say that it will be staying in my drawer until needed!

startail · 13/04/2012 22:32

I stuck extenders in my existing bras, my boobs didn't get much bigger, but DD1 pushed my ribs out.
They have never gone back.

Very irritating, yesterday trying on dresses. The zip got to the bottom of my ribs and just didn't quite do up.

southlundon · 13/04/2012 22:33

Wow Pickled, a 36w must be massive! Confused

blushingmare · 13/04/2012 23:44

Bought my first new ones at around 14 weeks. Then bought back extender for those at about 20 weeks. Was determined to stay in underwired as feel so ugly in non wired, but as my bump has grown the wires dig into the top of it and are causing pain and red marks. So have spent the past 4 weeks spending an absolute fortune on trying to find an underwired bra that still looks nice, can be worn with summery tops and is comfortable. Just today, at 32 weeks, I have conceded this is just not possible and bought a non wired nursing bra. I'm expecting to increase in size when milk comes in so this probably won't do for breastfeeding but maybe it'll get me to the end of pregnancy and maybe an emergency one to start with. As a tip, I've also bought some cheap round neck robbed material vest tops from M&S to wear under my more summery tops/dresses. These completely cover the hideous bra and mean that what is seen under the top is the vest top rather than the embarrassing old lady scaffolding Wink

Empusa · 13/04/2012 23:47

Sent DH out to get bras the day after I gave birth!

To be fair, I was planning on buying bras in the last couple of weeks of the pregnancy, but ended up in hospital almost constantly for the last 3 weeks. Plus my boobs never changed size so I could comfortably wear my usual underwired bras right up until labour.

RockChick1984 · 13/04/2012 23:52

I bought normal underwired bras with light padding, and pulled the underwire out! Found this was the only way to keep a nice-ish shape and decent support, but underwire was just so uncomfortable! Mothercare actually do have some lightly padded nursing bras for this purpose, but they r rubbish at measuring, I got measured up at debenhams and they told me a size that was loads better fitting!

WantAnOrange · 14/04/2012 08:14

At about 6 weeks I needed to ditch the super-boost push up gel filled bras for non-wired very comfortable plain ones.

Then at 14 weeks they were far to small so had to replace them. I've gone from a 30A to a 34B.

I found Mothercare fittings really good but I think it depends on the lady measuring you rather than the shop.

Purplecatti · 14/04/2012 10:23

every other bloody week, not even half way through yet and look like a porn star
:(

McPopcornMouseNFries · 14/04/2012 10:43

I had pretty big jugs anyway (34F) and I've only gone up one size (34FF) - that happened at about 8 weeks iirc (and once you get past that size you're better getting bigger back sizes tbvh, or the larger underwires end up somewhere around your back! Hmm )

theressomethingaboutmarie · 14/04/2012 10:45

I got measured last week (am 20 weeks) and have gone from a C to an E. I went to a D cup with DD1 so this is a turn up for the books. I have never felt so unsexy.....

ballroompink · 14/04/2012 11:13

I had increased by one cup size (32C to a D) by 20 weeks so purchased new ones then. Am 35 weeks now and still wearing those but I think they're starting to grow again and need to get nursing bras anyway so plan to get more in the next couple of weeks.

sayanything · 14/04/2012 11:21

I've gone from 34A/B to 34D in 20w. Last time I went up to 36F by the end, so at least I have the full range of sizes to see me through.
