Nuts in pregnancy

Is it just peanuts you should avoid when pregnant? I love nuts and just looking for something healthy to snack on.

only if there is no family history of allergies

otherwise snack away Grin

NHS website says all nuts -including peanuts-are fine (unless you're allergic of course!).

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 12/04/2012 13:30

What SimplySoo said.

They changed advice a few years ago - it's better if you eat them (unless you yourself are allergic) as there is growing evidence that early exposure may prevent allergies.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 12/04/2012 14:11

Really? I've read there's not much evidence to say why you shouldn't eat peanuts, but not that you should.

I have asthma, hayfever and eczema, so my plan was to avoid peanuts. What I really wanted to know was if it's just peanuts, or should other nuts be avoided too?

Confused now Confused

They used to say that you should avoid peanuts if there was a history of allergies in the family. So I dutifully did with first pg. They changed the advice halfway through my pregnancy due to lack of evidence.

As far as I know its just peanuts that that advice applied to, other nuts are fine.

Simply, thank god you said that, been eating peanut butter with gusto, even scooping out of the jar - yum! And suddenly thought today that perhaps I shouldn't be.

Oneof, I think exposure is better than avoiding, seems to make more sense to me anyway :)

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 12/04/2012 16:09

Yeah, I think I agree. I just have to make sure I don't eat too many or I have to go, IYKWIM!
