Sub chorionic haemmorhage anyone??

Has anyone experienced sub chorionic haemmorhage? I'm 12+6 and was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I've had one bout of lots of gushing blood .... Very, very scary as I've experienced a mmc before and lots of old brown blood which has started again with a over Easter. The NHS has really not given me any advice but I'm finding that when I self impose bed rest I don't get cramping or bleeding.... Anyone been through this or had good advice??

I had one - showed up in the uterus on the 7 week scan. I had a big bleed (dark red / brown) at 8-9 weeks of my twin pregnancy followed by brown / dark red on and off for a few weeks.

I had also had a couple of mc before so I understand how scary it is.

I found (ahem, tmi) that it was worse post-sex or orgasm. - Kind of started it off again - I guess it was just 'left over' from the bleed working its way out. It stopped by week 18ish, as I recall.

The very best of luck.

Thanks eggtimer

That rings a bell for me because it started again after DH and I decided to (cough) 'get a bit jiggy' after the bleeding had ended and abstaining for the majority of the first trimester because I was afraid of mc again! Good to know all was well for you in the end and how long it lasted... Even if it could be another 5 weeks or so! Smile

I had a mahoosive bleed just a couple of days after my scan. I think I was just over 11 weeks. It was bright red and gushed all over the floor. Went to A&E, they found a heartbeat and seemed quite non-plussed about the whole thing. I continued to have the equivalent of a really heavy period for about 2 days. I was booked in for my NT scan a couple of weeks later (because the first scan had been too early) and they found a rather large haematoma. Can?t remember exact dimensions now but I think it was 10cm x 10cm x 4 cm. Big according to google (google was not my friend!).

They said they?d be surprised if I didn?t bleed more and a couple of days later I started bleeding brown blood when I wiped which occasionally made it onto a pad for about 2 weeks. At the follow up scan they?d booked me in for, the clot had shrunk by more than half. I had no more bleeding and at my 20 week scan a couple of weeks ago, they could see it was still there but much smaller. I?m now 22 weeks and, touch wood, all seems fine.

It?s scary but in the majority of cases the outcome is good!

Thanks Pickle!! Glad to hear it's all going well for you too! Smile Did you ladies carry on as normal or were you signed off to rest?? Google... Which you're right, definitely isn't a friend to pregnant women Angry , seems to favour bed rest and no lifting but in rl only my ultrasonographer has mentioned it to me?

I didn't get told anything that I should or shouldn't do. I stayed away from lifting (as much as I could with an 18month old) and was far too scared off any bedroom activity until my 20 week scan.

Have you been booked in for a follow up scan?

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 11/04/2012 19:52

I was signed off work for two weeks and told to rest as much as possible with no heavy lifting.

No bed rest, but rest. No cleaning, gardening, decorating or shopping- was the advice I was given. I happily complied Wink

Lots of look. And don't google too much because you'll only remember the horror stories you read

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 11/04/2012 19:53

Luck!

mercibucket · 11/04/2012 19:57

I had one and on and off bleeding til abou 16 weeks, brown blood mostly after 14 weeks. I didn't have bed rest but just avoided too much exercise/lifting. It always started after exercise - well the biggest bleed was after a big day at the shops!
All went well, baby fine

Kelbells · 11/04/2012 21:15

Thanks Merci and Boys... It's good to hear all positive news from all the experiences! Smile

Pregnancy is so wonderful and yet such an emotional and physical roller coaster combine that with the Internet - a scary place with so much conflicting advice and horror stories! I'm starting to wonder if my mum's generation of not knowing anything 'til it popped out had it right! There was little old me a year ago naively thinking that you.. Have sex... Get pregnant... Have a baby... Simples!

I've taken a couple of days holiday this week to make the most of the Easter break but might see if my GP will sign me off next week as my job involves a lot of lugging around of boxes and carrying heavy stuff... It's just me in my car for hundreds of miles every day so I have no way of getting anyone else to lighten the load!

Pickle No follow up scan booked, not until 20 weeks.... But I'm due to see a consultant in 10 days as I had high blood pressure at my booking appt.... So I'll make the most of the opportunity and bring it up then...

Poor DH.... We've only been married 5 months and I'm slapping a sex ban on him already...(As well as letting him do all the housework) I'm sure he thinks I'm just making excuses now he's served his purpose! Wink

Hi kels,

I had a big bleed at 5/6 weeks pregnant. Had a scan and was told I had miscarried. My levels kept rising and a subsequent scan found a heartbeat and a 3cm clot. I was told nothing but had a scan two weeks later and have another booked for next week as well as my official 12 week one.

I was told nothing, not to rest or anything and in fact I've been off sick and just returned to work (unrelated) but I do lots of heavy work so am concerned.

Kelbells · 12/04/2012 07:37

Izzy Wow, I felt like i'd been through the mill, but I can't imagine how it must feel to grieve for a pregnancy and then be told it's still there.... I hope so much it all goes much more smoothly for you from here on in!! you'll have to let me know how your next scan goes!

Have you spoken to work at all? Are you in a position to be given lighter duties? I told mine at around 9 weeks so they understood why I wasn't working at 100%, i'm only as good as my last sale and I figured I could only use my maternity rights if they knew - they've been really understanding.......so far...... Oh my goodness izzy, I remember being on a thread of yours where you were sure you were having a miscarriage. That's awesome news that everything is okay! Must have been a major head flip dealing with it. Here's to a really boring rest of your pregnancy!

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 12/04/2012 08:48

I had a SCH at 11.5 weeks. I sufferred heavy bleeding for weeks and on one occasion I was admitted to hospital. I refrained from lifting, sex and pretty much anything else I spent slot of time on bed rest too. I can't remember the dimensions and the clot would shrink but them I'd have a bleed and it would grow again. I remember at one of the earlier scans the sonographer told me that as long as the clot was Less than 50% the size of the pregnancy sac the odds were better. Despite concerns over placental function, growth and fluid levels I did have a positive out come. The bleeding is terrifying though it really does not feel possible to bleed that much passing huge clots and still have the baby stay put. But they do thankfully. I wish u luck op hope everything sorts itself out. The advice is mixed though. Some recommend resting others say it doesn't make a difference I don't think they know that much tbh .

izzybizzybuzzybees · 12/04/2012 12:50

pickle yes it has most definelty been a head flip, a horrible rollercoaster ride of emotions as we were told bluntly baby as gone.

kels thankfully I have returned on light duties due to nature of illness but it's not as light as it could be, I think when my colleagues know about pregnancy then they will be more helpful but at the minute they are not so great. Only my manager knows for the minute and I think I prefer it this way as anything could happen due to the clot.

Kelbells · 13/04/2012 08:47

Thanks wheresmycaffeinedrip the clot is definitely smaller than 50% of the sac so that's positive!

I spoke with a GP at my surgery yesterday, I was a bit concerned as I haven't always found them particularly supportive during my mc and bleeding episodes but she was awesome! Really understanding and has signed me off for 2 weeks to rest. It may not make any difference and I'm feeling positive about the outcome being good anyway. But at least if the worst happens I'll not worry that it's anything I've done/not done (which is how I felt (irrationally) after my last mc)

Thanks for all your support ladies and to all those still cooking your little ones, I hope that your pregnancies are smooth and uneventful from here onwards! Grin

There's nothing u did or coulda done to cause this please don't ever think your responsible for any of it. The information is virtually non existent as far as the pregnancy books go and although google is helpful in alot of cases in this case I would advise against it. I'm not even sure the doctors know that much so just concentrate on looking after yourself and getting plenty of rest :)

SianNic · 13/04/2012 13:56

I had a massive bleed at 12wks in my 1st pregnancy, ending up in a&e on a drip. Then bled on and off, varying between brown and fresh blood for about 6 weeks. All of a sudden it completely stopped and no more. I had 3 separate sub chorionic bleeds seen on scans. Docs I saw were useless. I ended up having a month off work, mainly because I was so stressed! And spent that resting as much as poss. However the only reason the bleeding stops on bed rest is because of gravity as I always bled more after lying for a while, so I'm not convinced it makes a difference. There is little info out there on this- I insisted on scans about every 2 weeks which reassured me. Good luck, am sure all will be ok x
