What's this insomnia all about?

I'm nearly 30 weeks and am coming out of the end of a horrid cold / Cough. The weird legacy it has left me with seems to be random insomnia. I go to bed tired, fall asleep as normal and then wake up for no reason about 5am and can't get back to sleep. Anyone else suffering from this? Any top tips? I am not particularly uncomfortable, just awake!! It's really annoying. I never normally have issues sleeping.
Thanks
M

Hi, I'm 23 weeks and awake too, for me it's normally about the same time. No tips as need them myself too! The other day I did manage to get back to sleep at about seven but its a work day and need to be getting up at seven.... LO was licking but has now gone quiet so I assume back to sleep.

Good luck getting back to sleep!

I had this from 39 weeks onwards, I understood it to be my body training it's self to survive on tiny amounts of sleep!

Good luck getting back to sleep! Try to have a nap or rest whenever you can, easier said than done I know!

Im just starting with terrible insomnia, will be 39 weeks on Friday, Ive started just cat napping when I can seems like the only solution really - I went through a few phases of not sleeping earlier in my pregnancy and they seemed to right them selves though so perhaps another week or so and you will be sleeping a bit better

You'll be getting up at 5am for years, so best to get used to it now. Wink

That's what is so depressing about it! I was hoping to enjoy my last few weeks of uninterrupted sleep (I am expecting number 1)! Instead I find myself lying staring at DH's back, listening to him in the land of nod. Grrrrr! Oh well, hopefully it will resolve itself. Perhaps more exercise during the day is the answer (my daily dog walking constitutional has been interrupted by my cold!). At least I have managed to use my time constructively. I got up at 6am in the end, walked the dog and was at the supermarket by 7.40am. Thank you ladies x

Insomnia turns to sleep deprivation - oh the joys! The only night I seemed to sleep like a log in the last trimester was the night I went to my pregnancy yoga class. And early morning tv is RUBBISH!

You could try some sort of hypnosis cd- it might help you fall back to sleep but at the very least you'll get a nice rest. There are lots of hypnobirthing type ones, I liked the Maggie Howell ones.

I have suffered from this with all my pregnancies from quite early on - in fact, because my babies gave been good sleepers I have always got more sleep once I've given birth!
The Paul Mckenna cd us good, and also I have started not allowing myself to think about the past or the future when I am in bed. It helps.
