At what stage in pregancy do you sit down and go through your birth plan with your midwife?
It's dc3 for me but i can't quite remember Blush,i would quite like a water birth but i'm not sure if you can still have one of these if you need to be induced which could be the case for me.

When I was pg, i was told we did this at 36wks.

Ds was born at 35wks so didn't get the chance. :(

Erm, I wrote one but never went through it with a midwife... DH just made sure I got what I wanted.

BTW I was induced and that did rule out a waterbirth as I had to be in a consultant led room (no pool) and on a heart rate monitor most of the time.

When I was term (I figured before that it would be an emergency). Never talked about them with antenatal midwives, I just showed them to the midwife when they came when I was in labour, but mine are fairly short and sweet (please be nice to me and give me my baby ASAP was pretty much the main message) so there wasn't much to talk about really.

I am 40+6 and as yet haven't been through mine with anyone!

Thanks for the replies.
so it looks like there is no set time for this then,i have an appointment in a couple of weeks so i will ask if we could take a look at it then.
babybouncer if that is the case then i will try and avoid induction (i was induced with dd1 and its a posibility this time due to size) as i really would like a waterbirth if i can.

I think if you want a waterbirth you need to discuss it upfront and find out if it's a possibility as they only have so many pools (if any). I know the usual rule is that you can have one if they have one available but you prob want to give them some advance warning so they can try to accomodate you rather than show up at the hospital in labour and sporting your bikini Grin

I discussed my birth plan for DC1 at around 36 weeks. It was useful, in terms of my Obs talking me through some things I was worried about which were actually not going to be problems (like being given pethadine, episiotomies, forceps etc).

I started mine around 28 weeks and tweaked it weekly but then my birth plan was the best hope for communicating my wishes whilst labouring in a foreign language, potentially on my own. I obsessively went through it with a MW at my 7 month appt.

I've already written the next one for hypothetical DC2.

They never went through a plan. I wrote one using an online template n stuck it in my notes. It was very basic. But as soon as my waters broke n there was meconium in them said plan went out the window and my birth was the complete opposite of what I'd have liked.

Plan was a natural labour, gas and air if I requested, to stay active, use the pool if it was free and minimal monitoring. When in fact I ended hooked up to a monitor, restricted to a bed and resulted in EMCS under general anaesthetic so me and DH missed it Sad
