Well, that about sums it up. Not cramps, not SPD/PGP, just a lovely feeling like having a tampon in sideways.

Normal/anyone else?

Normal I think!! Is yr baby engaged? I had that from about 32/33 weeks and still get it now but alot stronger ....it can stop me in my tracks (I am 38+4)

LadyWord · 10/04/2012 16:41

Yes I had this - I think it can be muscle cramps, but also that stabbing feeling happened when the baby seem to kind of "stand up" inside and press down really hard. Once I was crossing the road and it was so sudden and strong I almost fell over. I had normal full-term births though. So I wouldn't worry but mention it to MW when you see her?

openerofjars · 10/04/2012 16:48

No idea, it's a NSC (neglected subsequent child) so I only see the MW every couple of months or so. I think I'm due to see her again next Monday, so will ask her then re engagement.

Hurts like a bitch, though, don't it? I've been sitting in a National Trust cafe, pulling extraordinary faces for the amusement of DH & DS. Don't mind me, chaps, it's probably just my cervix effacing.

TMI question: do your stabby pains get followed by lots of jelly-like discharge? And do feel free not to answer if you feel.it would be oversharing.

I have this too. Oddly Enough I only seem to get these pains when I'm walking outside the house. I thought they could be from a trapped nerve or something?? Bloody sore tho!

luckysocks · 10/04/2012 18:44

I'm 33 weeks too and it sounds like what I had for the first time last night. Said to DH ooh I've got a pain, he said where?... only way I could think to describe it was in my cervix, but then it's not like pinpointing a pain in your finger is it - how do you know?! It was quite sharp and made me sit down for a bit.

Didn't notice any discharge though.

I think I had similar with DS towards the end, too.

openerofjars · 10/04/2012 18:52

Just had an in-denial moment re "towards the end"! Grin Shock

It just feels like when a tampon has gone a bit wrong, but worse. Okay, we've established this is normal. But gross.

If you Google "stabby fanjo" you get about a page of MN threads full of grumpy women talking about vaginas. I love this place.

I just properly laughed that you googled "stabby fanjo" and then felt vaguely surprised that MN was all you got Grin

6-and-a-bit weeks til due date..........

I love this place too- I've been getting similar pains and you just can't mention it to anyone else!! Feels like stinging and stabbing right 'inside' but high up, sometimes almost beyond the cervix? Thought maybe it was a urine infection but no other symptoms and samples have been clear. I guess it's just baby pressing on something, though it feels like baby is in my ribs so don't know how it's managing to be down there too!

HappyAsEyeAm · 10/04/2012 20:35

Yep, I get this. 38 weeks now, and I've been getting it for about 8 weeks. Its really painful, isn't it? I was only able to describe it as digging, really deep, like with sharp nails.

Mine is a second pregnancy too, and I didn't get it with DS. Possibly because he was breech for absolutely ages. So it may be linked to the head engaging. At my last appointment (I think I've seen a midwife all of five times in the whole pregnancy), I was told that the head was 2/5 engaged.

Cydonia · 10/04/2012 20:35

Or maybe it's the body's way of preparing us for the pain of childbirth and the 'discomfort' afterwards.....

openerofjars · 10/04/2012 22:27

Nah. This is just epic discomfort but I remember my first actual contraction making it quite clear that Braxton Hicks had been merely uncomfortable. Now, the getting up 4 times per night in late pg, that prepares you a bit for having a baby.

Anywayyyyyy, I'd bet good money that "stabby fanjo" is a safer Google search than "dragon butter".

Don't do it!
