Best place to buy maternity/nursing nightwear?

I'm starting to think about packing my hospital bag and need to get something to wear for after the birth. Well, I guess I do, I'm assuming you will need to get changed afterwards but into something suitable for sleeping? Anyway, I live in a maternity wear desert so could do with some recommendations for nighties/pyjamas that I can get online, suitable for nursing and not too expensive! Is it ok to wear pyjamas after the birth or are nighties better? (normally don't like nighties but might be cooler?) And preferably something with some sort of support for my gigantic bosoms! Or do you just wear a bra? Sorry for the daft questions!!

Hi Cydonia, I got a nightie from these guys which is ideal for pregnancy/nursing:

I was planning to wear the nightie in hospital although I'm not a nightie girl - but will need them due to catheter post CS. Your hospital will probably be like a sauna too so avoid anything with long arms or legs!

I also got some treat bamboo PJs from Seraphine but they were on the pricey side. But seriously the most comfy thing I've bought all pregnancy, so soft and They've fit perfectly for months plus I plan to LIVE in them for a couple of months when I get home again! They are lovely and stretchy and will be ideal for feeding too.

Worth grabbing a discount code in a pregnancy magazine for Seraphine, there is always a 10% off floating around Smile

Hello. I hope I can help. I normally prefer pyjamas but found that nighties were better. Less chance of leaking onto them and easier for the loo etc. Also hospitals are very warm in maternity wards especially as they like to keep babies toasty. Obviously it's up to you though. I found I needed a sleep bra of sorts for under them for comfort and to keep in place breast pads! I have just ordered these for during pregnancy and after. They look quite nice and a wee bit nicer for visitors. I also ordered two of these bras as they look comfy and had good reviews and won sme sort of mother and baby type award.
Nothing has arrived yet tho! The nighties I got using a £15 off voucher for new customers so they worked out cheaper. I hope that helps a little!

If you have enormous boobs then yes I think it would be recommended to wear a nursing bra at all times. I've been told that when your milk comes in then your breasts may swell and harden and feel very heavy do you will need the support of a sturdy bra. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and gone from a 32G to a 36k!! I wore a Triumph Doreen (ugly granny bra but extremely supportive) combined with a seamfree carriwell sleep bra at night from 3-6months then I invested in a Royce Jasmine which is super supportive, comfy. And actually doesn't look that bad. As for pyjamas v nighties, I'm a pyjama girl usually and got some great pj's from Jojo Maman Bebe with a bump band and a nursing top. I have also got a couple of button through nighties from Matalan and Debenhams that I intend on wearing for labour and just after baby is born. Hope that helps!

Brilliant, thanks everyone you've saved me hours of Internet trawling! I thought nighties would probably be better, visited the labour ward as part of my parent craft class and it was BOILING!

Langoria, I'm dreading the whole 'milk coming in' thing! My boobs actually haven't grown that much recently (after an early spurt!) so I've been delaying buying any nursing bras yet cos don't think they'll fit when baby is here. I'm 32 weeks too and so far 'only' a 36FF but I'm only 5ft2 so feels bigger! Sleep bras look like a good idea, they look nice and comfy. God, the list of stuff I need is never ending.....

I just got a pack of 2 nursing nighties from mothercare, 1 was black (wore it for the birth) and 1 was grey (wore it on the ward with a black dredging gown). They were perfect, cheap and just spaghetti straps so not too warm. I also got a couple of cheap primark non-wired bras which I found were much more comfortable than nursing bras. My boobs had been leaking since about 38 weeks so was wearing breast pads at all times then!

Deffo agree on nighties.
I would just add I bought 2 nursing nighties with 'handy holes' under a panel, and the materiel was so scratchy on my suffering nipples that I never wore them without a nursing bra- which I needed anyway to harness the massive bosom!
TMI alert!
Lastly, for the bit post partum I recommend you buy 'old lady style' high waisted black cotton pants to wear with maternitYnpads -available in packs of 5 or 7 from m&s, tesco etc. high waisted because they make the pad sit more neatly and black in colour because they are more forgiving on your eye or your washing pile if there are any leaks, and they don't stain.
And they keep your kidneys warm:)

I ended up getting some "little red riding hood's grandmother" style cotton nighties (ie the sort with some buttons at the front) and found them really easy to use as I could just undo the buttons & hoik my boobs out. I wore a nursing bra under them in the first few weeks for support/to hold breast pads in place. A couple of the pairs of maternity PJs I'd bought were supposed to be nursing ones but I found it too much effort to line my nipples up with the (fairly small) holes they were supposed to go through, especially in the first few days when I was constantly checking the latch.

I bought the Bella short sleeved nightie from whitenightie.co.uk, its 100% cotton, with buttons right down the front, nice for nursing.

Jenjen85 · 30/01/2013 20:42

I noticed the other day in tesco that they have a button down the front nightie in a dark grey and a decent length too (not too long/short) it was only £10 so I think ill be getting one if these for my hospital bag

Bambi86 · 26/02/2013 12:26

I just ordered two maternity nighties from M&S online. £12.50 each! And I got them delivered to my local store next day. They get very good reviews too!
