Insomnia

I suffered from insomnia as a teenager but have been generally ok since then. Currently 22 weeks pregnant and finding that I wake up around 4.30am and cannot get back to sleep. As you can tell am wide awake now. Have tried everything... Is this normal? Will it stop? Anyone else out there awake? My DSis told me its natures way but am feeling LO enough to know he's fast asleep at the moment... Help!

I get it too, no problem going to sleep but if woken/need the loo then that's it.

It is normal for lots of people. I am pregnant with dc3 & have had it with all. Wish I could offer some advice other than power nap in the day (at lunch break if working or with the aid of cbeebies if at home with dc)

YawnSmile

Thanks Buns. This is the first time I've turned to mumsnet whilst trying to sleep and am realising there are a few of us around. DH just rolled over and asked me if it was morning, he turned over and went back to sleep when I said no. B**stard.

I'm with you Westcountry! 28wks and awake since 5am. I've always had sleep issues and find it hard to get back to sleep once I've woken. It's the multiple night wees that get me, and the fact that as soon as I wake up the LO wakes up too and starts kicking. It is a pain isn't it. Hopefully you don't have too much to do today with it being a BH? DD1 is back from PIL's later but she is used to me lying on the sofa and groaning atm!

I don't suffer from insomnia but I have noticed since becoming pregnant I have been sleeping less. I was on average a good 10/12 hour per night sleeper (easily 13 hours on the wknd) I now find that although I still go to bed early I'm waking up much earlier (nothing like you guys, more like 7.30/8ish without an alarm) so maybe it's something to do with the hormones and body getting used to less sleep. I do feel for you tho, I had an ex who suffered from insomnia, it was horrid xx

Hi Westcountry, I am also having trouble sleeping since about 18 weeks (now 22 weeks) and cannot seem to lie in anymore even though I am knackered. I brought a dream genie pillow and that really helps me get comfortable. I also find when I can breaking my sleep into sessions helps so I get up for a bit, eat, watch a bit of tv and then go back to bed or have an afternoon nap later. I think I have a limit of how long I can sleep for in one go. Also, the little one enjoys somersault practise at 5/6am most days.

I also have had insomnia when I was younger and for the 1st 18 weeks I was probably sleeping the best I have ever done in my life. Shame it didn't last!!

Same here. I usually wake 4.30 to 5am and can't get back to sleep.

The only thing that helps is if I turn on the light and read for a while. It seems to break the cycle of thoughts that go around my head in the early hours. I would say that I get back to sleep 4 out of 5 times I do this although I'm sometimes too tired and lazy even to do this.

I did get back to sleep at about 7 for another hour so not dead on my feet today. With the family so 8 o'clock wake up from nephew who could be contained no more...

I need to get into the getting up, doing something then trying again routine. Mumsnetting this morning worked as I focused on something other than trying to sleep. I may start a regular group as there do seem to be a few of us!

Thank you all and happy sleeping!
