That's okay, isn't it? I'm having strong period pains today which I haven't really had before. I always have a similar pain in my back during the night, but this is at the front. Generally feel on edge, grumpy and short tempered. I haven't had a particularly difficult or busy day, no work and a few hours rest in the afternoon. I do have a toddler so did the usual with her all day.

Baby moving at least as much as usual - one very obvious whole body flip earlier which made me feel sick!

I definitely think you should get this checked out, early labour pains feel like period pains. Chances are it'll be nothing but better safe than sorry?

Oh God, really? I can't go anywhere. DD in bed, DH sailing in the middle of the sea somewhere (idiot!).

Give your midwife or maternity unit a buzz and see what they say. At 28 weeks if things start happening they'll want you in ASAP. Am sure it'll be fine, but be on the safe side.

belindarose · 05/04/2012 19:25

I can't. I'm too scared

I would call someone if you are in anyway unsure to be on the safe side.
I used to get abdominal pains all through my pregnancy which were all fine, & just the usual pains you get due to growing baby. See how long they last for, & see how you feel. Always better to be safe than sorry

I would be more scared about not calling and asking a professional. It is probably nothing, but if something is going on, wouldn't you rather know?

I am not trying to be bitchy here, but you must know that every time anyone posts about anything medically related, the response is to call your MW. What did you expect people to say in response to your post?

Is there someone you can all to watch your dc while you go in? Or you may not even have to go in, but i would call anyway. I hope you are ok.

Don't be scared.

  1. Chances are its nothing
  2. If it might be the start of labour and you alert them early enough they may be able to delay it
  3. Worst case it is the beginning of labour and if you alert them early enough you should be able to get important steroids etc
All much less scary than sat at home panicking (but bear in mind point 1!)

Ringing your MW is a good idea. But also maybe try sitting down with your feet up for a bit - if they lessen and/or go away then that's a good sign I think. If they get worse at any point - progressively - then I would say you should get seen ASAP just in case.

Oh and I went in a couple of times for false alarms, which meant I got to meet lots of the staff and suss out where the tea and toast was when I actually delivered!

cheekydino · 06/04/2012 08:01

How are you this morning OP? Have you been checked out? I'm sure it's nothing but I did have something similar and it was something, so please get checked out if you haven't already, even if the pains have gone now.

belindarose · 06/04/2012 21:00

Thanks. I did call after posting here. They seemed very uninterested and said to go in if the pains didn't go away after a rest, bath and a few more hours. They did and I was able to sleep a bit during the night.

Movements seem more 'normal' for us today and the pains have gone.

Although today I have the start of the dreaded SPD pains I had in the last pregnancy. Great!
