France at 26-30 weeks (camping)?

Am in the early stages of pregnancy and we have a holiday to France booked, where we will be camping. I will be 26-30 weeks pregnant by then and we will be in France 3 weeks.

It is not my first pregnancy, so I am hoping all will be well. Would you go? Do you think it will be ok?

I would go prepared with my notes, adequate insurance and the details of the nearest maternity hospital. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated! Thanks Smile

I'll be doing the same, although not camping, at about 26 weeks. It's my second too. There was a thread a few days ago about ehic and medical cover in France if you search for it. I'm on my phone so can't do it for you.

Are you going by train?

wickedfairy · 05/04/2012 14:48

Hi crochet,

No, we will be driving to France, so will be taking 2 days to get there (stopping off the night in between in a B&B). This will be our third baby, fingers crossed everything is ok, not had a scan yet. Congrats on your baby too! Where are you heading to?

Thanks for the heads up on that thread, will search for it now. We all have EHIC's but will find the thread for information.

Thanks!

Camping??? No chance I would have been able to do it at that stage but if you don't have any back pain/spd issues and you will be able to camp comfortably then fair enough. Also what about the twice nightly toilet trips?

I am biased because I hate camping anyway but it certainly wouldn't be my choice of third trimester pregnant holiday! I'd want a nice comfy bed to sleep in.

I think the going to France will be fine but as the PP said it would be the lack of a comfortable bed plus frequent trips to the loo that would make it hellish for me.

I'm 25 weeks and would feel fine to camp. You can always change your mind last minute if you don't feel up to it

I am not a camper either, but I would find it very uncomfortable right now (30 weeks) to be sleeping on the ground, without a bathroom nearby.
However, with my first, would have been fine at 30 weeks. As you know, all pg are different.

wickedfairy · 06/04/2012 14:13

Thanks for your thoughts! I am only early days pg yet, so can't say how I will feel. Felt like death the other 2 pregnancies, so we will have to see.

Had booked before I knew I was pg, so can't really change it. I have camped a few nights pg before and actually found the airbed to be more comfortable than my own bed!! Strange but true, maybe it supports more??

Re the toilet trips at night, we have a little bucket with a lid! We use that usually if someone needs a wee in the night when camping and empty it in the morning. Not so sure on balancing when bigger, but hey ho!!

I camped at 34 weeks in France many moons ago. No problems except the nightly stroll thru the campsite to the toilet block which I strangely enjoyed!

I was in France when I found out I was pregnant, so just to let you know: if you need a doctor, you can just go see any GP (it's not like the UK where you have to be registered or anything). It's usually a lot easier to see doctors at short notice. You pay for the visit (I think 22 euros?) and then when you get home send the receipt off to EHIC for reimbursement. So it's worth finding out not only the local hospital but some local doctors, just in case.

I don't know how it works with hospitals though, so you might want extra insurance for that.

Good luck!

hiya wickedfairy

we're going to montpellier for a couple of weeks, staying in an apartment. I reckon you'll be fine camping - its so lovely being closer to nature.

We are going to get the train - very exciting! With DD1 being 10 months old. It could be interesting...

Have fun
