I was told by my previous midwife it is due to lack of calcium although cramps are soo common in pg.

She suggested increasing my intake of calcium, more so at night so maybe have a hot milky drink like hot choc or horlicks.

I started eating porridge too and having a milky desert after tea. Normally rice pudding, angel delight that sort of thing.

HTH.

I got awful cramp in my legs especially in bed at night (I yelled that loud one night that dh thought the baby was on its way!!) I found that eating a banana every day helped me.

Yeah I've heard that low potassium levels can contribute to cramps also.

I've had this problem and was advised to drink more water in the evening. Now I go to the loo more but have less cramp!

I agree with eating a banana. I do when I feel cramp coming on and it seems to work.

I also suffered with cramps in 1st pg and now 22 wks they have started again, in the legs and always in the middle of the night. My mw recommended quinnine (sp!) which is found in tonic water - if you add ice and a slice you can pretend there's gin in there aswell

I was advised by my midwife to use Pulsatilla 30c. The one I got was Nelsons and it was widely available in chemists. Try Health food shops if not.

I had tried the bananas, milky drinks, support stockings (lovely!!) but nothing else helped. My legs would lock solid and be so painful I would cry. At times the pain would be so horrific I would feel sick. HTH.

i just have to grin and bear it and the only way i can get rid of it is to get out of bed and walk around.
