I'm sick of blood tests and I'm only 22 weeks :(

They had a syringe at 12 week booking scan, another at 20 week scan, 2 on Monday, 2 more today and if I would kindly pop in next Tuesday and give them another couple they'll then let me know when they'd like the next lot!! All because my liver functions are "deranged".

I know I've come off lightly in comparison to some and its not that much really but my blood likes to stay inside me so it can take them 5-10 minutes to get the amount they need and I end up with huge bruises.

As for urine tests - what are they doing with the stuff - drinking it? Confused

I'm currently sitting on my hospital bed, with several puncture wounds, bruises and bits of wadding stuck on with tape to my atns/hands where they've been taking blood and tried to put canula in :( so I know how you feel. It's rubbish isn't it!
Hope things go ok for you fpl x

faintpinkline · 04/04/2012 17:16

Oh poor you. Getting canula in is horrible but worth enduring it because once its in that's it for needles for a while (in theory at least) Can they really not manage it? I had 2 when I had DD one in each hand- they never even used one of them though apparently it was just in case - though in case of what I never did establish Grin

Sorry to hear you're in hospital - is it for birth now or more checks and tests?

It was for an unexplained bleed at 22+1, have low lying placenta covering cervix, which they think is the reason for the bleed. :( They did manage to get canula in, finally, but was SO painful.

Was discharged tonight though, so it's out now - hoorah! :o

I hope you managed to keep as much of your blood as you can, mine seems to quite like disappearing too! (boo!)

faintpinkline · 05/04/2012 10:28

Glad to see you're out and they found a reason. I'm 22+1 today - I'll be keeping a close eye on things.

Hope you aren't in again until you have your baby now

Try 2 injections a day administered yourself with a sting, plus all the usual tests. Yes I feel like a pin cushion and my tummy has bruises and hole marks all over it.

faintpinkline · 06/04/2012 10:10

Oh Loislane why? That sounds miserable. Is it forever or just temporary?

I had to inject myself with warfarin for a while a few years ago - injections into stomach but thankfully it was only for a week and that was enough for me.

Ouch Loislane78, are you diabetic? because it sounds exactly like my sister's tum :(

KatAndKit · 06/04/2012 10:51

loislane are you on the clexane too? I can't wait not to have to stab myself in the belly every day. Thankfully I'm only on the once a day dose. My tum is not looking so great either.

On top of that I have had a grand total of six blood tests this pregnancy.

Loislane78 · 06/04/2012 10:51

Clexane jabs due to DVT a few years ago. Doing it since 12 weeks and up to 8 afterwards so think I might resemble a very large colander by then :). No risk to bambino though as doesn't cross the placenta which is good. Done 6 months on warfarin before and that stuff is nasty. Tbh more bothered about having to wear old lady compression socks in the heat (if it ever gets hot again!).

Ah well, things we have to do girls! Sure it will be worth it in the end :)

Loislane78 · 06/04/2012 10:56

Oooo just saw your post KatAndKit - been waiting for someone else on Clexane to tell me their birth plan as heard soooo many different scenarios from different MWs and consultants, bit confused tbh. Some are saying early induction (not keen) others say business as usual but have to be at the hosp - who knows!!

What have they discussed with you?

:)

BagofHolly · 06/04/2012 11:00

Loislane I was a clexane chick too, plus intra muscular gestone every night for 12 weeks, and "Chicago" (17 vials) three times too. Plus the normal tests. Standard fodder for ARGC girls.

OP, in the nicest possible way, give over! Smile

KatAndKit · 06/04/2012 11:00

Induction at 40 weeks next Thursday! Growth scans were all fine so no need for early induction but also no need to risk prolonging the pregnancy past the due date. Not keen either but am so fed up with being pregnant now that I am quite willing to agree to induction.

Loislane78 · 06/04/2012 11:06

I'm only 21 wks so imagine I might feel happier about an induction if this is only half way! :)

Do you mind me asking what was discussed in the case you need c section? guess it also depends on reason for the jabs.

Good luck to you, hope all goes well and how exciting!!!! You've got all summer to be out and about with Babs - lovely :)

KatAndKit · 06/04/2012 11:10

C-section will mean 6 weeks of the jabs after the birth. not sure how long i'll have on them if it's a normal exit route though. Hopefully not six weeks!

BagofHolly · 06/04/2012 11:13

Ta! Fwiw I had awful needlephobia and had to have hypnotherapy before I could have even basic blood tests, long before I knew we had fertility problems. If I'd known then about all the jabs I'd have freaked so much I wouldn't have got my head round the hypnotherapy! Amazing what you can condition the mind to tolerate!

Loislane78 · 06/04/2012 11:25

Sorry to go on, have you Clexane girls had lots if scans to check for growth? I have my '20' week scan on Thurs and getting slightly freaked as everyone keeps telling me how small I am. I'm not usually one to worry and just think we're all different. To me i have a distinct bump plus I'm 5' 8' size 12-14 so just reckon I've got a lot of belly space before it pops out. Movement seems fine, lots of wriggles so hoping I've just read too many threads.

KatAndKit · 06/04/2012 11:35

Yes, i had growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. They plot the measurements on a graph in my notes to make sure that the baby doesn't drop significantly down the centiles. Growth restriction is a risk if you have blood clotting issues so sometimes if the baby isn't going up the chart properly, it is a case of better out than in.

I hardly had any bump at 20 weeks it looked more like podge to be honest.

Loislane78 · 06/04/2012 11:46

Reassuring, thanks for that and only a few days to wait for the scan to see what's really going in in there!

Have a great Easter gals :)
