Getting baby to move

Hi All
I am 30+6, had a fall on Monday and had to go to hospital for antiD and monitoring, all fine. baby was moving fine but havent really felt anything since last night.

Think I am being paranoid and don't want to be the neurotic ringing up midwife again. So what are your tips for getting baby moving? Prepared to try anything!

I wouldn't worry about being neurotic. Midwives are used to it aren't they. Eat a bar of chocolate, that often gets babies moving, then ring the MW.

Drink a very cold drink with ice in it and you could try playing some loud music with heavy bass in it? I also find if I lean forward and squash my bump a bit I get a wack as he must be feeling squashed...

I agree with the chocolate and ice cold drink. If it doesn't get baby moving, phone the midwife. xx

moojie · 04/04/2012 12:55

Just call them, that is what they are there for. You are worried and that is reason enough. Baby will probably move whilst you are on the phone!

Lying on my side always gets mine moving.

And like everyone else says, phone them if you're concerned. I did once as I hadn't felt movements for a while and was told to
always phone, they'd never think you're over reacting and they'd rather you'd phone than not!

For the record, the second I'd arranged to
go in and see them that avo, the little devil started moving and didn't stop!!

Cold or sugary drink. I was a constant visitor to the water cooler at work when I was pg for this reason.

Down a can of pepsi/coke and lie on one side

Give it 30mins then call midwife if no movement

MousyMouse · 04/04/2012 13:28

ice cold drink
try to grab baby's leg (if you know where they are)
call m/w immediately and if she doesn't answer go directly to the fetal assessment unit at the hospital.

BillyBollyBandy · 04/04/2012 13:31

Just to reassure you, when I was put on a monitor for non movement of dd2, you could hear her swishing about quite merrily but I couldn't feel a thing and was about 34 weeks so should have been able to see her!

The midwives were very clear, it didn't matter how many times I was in there - if I couldn't feel her move I was to go and be monitored.

Go in if you've got any concerns at all.

Otherwise, anything with lots of caffeine in works for me (eg coke or a Starbucks) as does prodding whichever limb is sticking out the most or having a bath. I also find that if I bend over for more than a few seconds (for example, cleaning the bath) I usually get a solid movement in protest...not sure I'd recommend this as a method though.

AlanMoore · 04/04/2012 14:43

Going in to be monitored usually gets the little feckers moving! Try cold/fizzy drink then lying down with your bump against a hard floor, has always worked for me apart from once, when I did go for monitoring and the baby waited, still and stealthy like a ninja, til the second the mw went to attach the pad then did a huge flail which was probably visible from space :)

danielou · 04/04/2012 14:50

I'm 22+3 I've been paranoid as haven't been feeling him move much so posted and someone suggested cold sugary drink. I went a got some coke (don't normally drink it can't stand it) and he started moving around loads after about a hour :) midwives are there for you so don't be worried about ringing them up.

Hi All

Thanks for all advice. I keep feeling pressure in my bladder so must be moving about in there. Will head to the shop for some pop now and see if that does the trick!

Coke doesn't seem to make mine move but everytime I have a creme egg kick kick kick! Plus good excuse to eat creme eggs hehehe

faintpinkline · 04/04/2012 17:08

Ice cold drink and lie down still on your side for a while.

Failing that as everyone says go to be monitored and baby will probably give you a good kick just as they turn the machine on making you feel like a complete time waster but don't worry midwives are very used to it and will probably monitor you for a bit anyway to be sure
