SPD - what worked best for you? Horrible pain at 19 weeks...

I am feeling a bit desperate - am 19 weeks pregnant with DC2, and in horrible pain.

I had v bad SPD with my 1st, and have been referred to an obstetric physio and have also seen an osteopath privately. But the pain has just got worse and if anything I have been in more pain for a few days after sessions.

The only thing that seems to really help is rest, but surely this isn't all I can do?

If you've had SPD, what worked (even a little bit) for you?

i've struggled again this time too for months on end, thankfully i am due very soon. I would say do the exercises recommended, rest where possible (not so easy when you have a toddler to look after), warm baths and a birthing ball have worked a bit for me. I know it's tedious to say the least but there is an end to it eventually. Keep your midwife and physio informed and call them if your symptoms get much worse, they may be able to recommend further things like crutches or pain killers etc.

take it easy honey and hope the weeks fly by for you.

osteopath worked for me, ended up have weekly sessions just so I could walk a few hundred yards, it was a nightmare although I didnt realise how much so until it was over!

I am 6 weeks with my second and hoping it won't happen again, but guessing it will. :( good luck, i hope the osteopath really works for you, I found it quite amazing!

PS if the osteopath you went to before wasn't any good then try and fine another through reconmendation, I have heard they can be a bit hit and miss and I found mine through word of mouth and it was worth it.

Can't offer much more than the above and what you are already doing tbh.
I used to sleep with pillow between my legs on my left side. Oh the relief when I started doing that! I also used a V pillow as I got bigger, that was great too.

Chiropractor, absolute godsend.

My osteopath is fantastic - would second the advice to find another through recommendation and see if they help a bit more.

I found this osteopath (or magician!) towards the end of my second pregnancy, and she really helped. With my first baby, I was also in pain and went to an NHS physio, and they just couldn't help me.

I went to see the osteopath this time as soon as I had any pelvic pain (in the early 20s of weeks), and she got rid of it altogether. Of course, I slipped on the bathroom floor on Monday, 4 days after spending £40 on a session, and now the pain is back! I'm going to see her again tomorrow...

Apart from that, warm baths used to ease it a bit. I used to have a bath before bed, just so I'd be comfortable to get to sleep.

If you are anywhere near Evesham, I'd be happy to tell you who I go to!

I found a really good bump band has made a lot of difference. Its not easy second time around is it!

I had this with both ds.

First time it was a real battle to get a physio Appt, had to wait weeks while it got worse midwives basically said tough, you're pg, deal with it whenever I complained about the pain. Eventually saw physio and got a girdle bump belt and some exercises which helped a bit.

Second time around I recognised what it was and midwife gave me an immediate referral (by then lived in a different area). Treating it quickly made all the difference as I had a belt and more exercises and was able to stop it from getting really bad. Still hurt but nowhere near as much (and nowhere near as incapacitating) as first time around.

Get a belt as soon as you can. And if the first one doesn't work, there are different ones so try a different one (my physio gave me a couple of different ones as I got bigger with ds2 and needed different support).

Hope you manage to manage it successfully!

I had SPD at 30 weeks with dd1, 7 weeks with dd2 and from 26 weeks with dd3. I have been seeing a chiropractor from 5 weeks pregnant and being very careful with everything one sided e.g. no hoovering, sitting to iron, not walking from 26 weeks. I am 36 weeks now and not too bad. I am even going to walk the 30 mins to see the midwife today - I've decided I want an early baby so am going to try walking and hope it doesn't hurt too much. If it does I just won't attempt it again.
Always be aware of how you are sitting, standing, getting in and out of cars etc. Be as level and balanced as you can. You need to be aware of your posture all the time or even resting will get painful.
