subchorionic hematoma - what did you DO?

hi, just had a pretty major bleed at week 11, and was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma.
my v.v. professional doctor told me that:
bedrest would not make a difference and neither would lifting as the blood clot is unrelated to abdominal muscles but on the other hand he told me to stay clear from my 8 month old daughter ( she kicks) a little and not fly, so mixed messages really.
worried as i am, i stayed in bed for 5 days and only now after a week started lifting my daughter. i also eat and drink lots of stuff thats high in antioxidants and bioflavinoids because im imagining it will help my body to absorb the blood.

what did you do after you had a subchorionic hematoma/ heavy bleed?
thanks!

I have been on bed rest for 7 weeks with a SCH. It is miserable.

welliesandpyjamas · 03/04/2012 16:37

Not quite bed rest but lots of easing up on everything and resting, i.e. driving instead of walking to school, feet up at any opportunity, ask for help, avoiding heavy lifting and overdoing things. Sounds a bit vague but ykwim, just give yourself time and use common sense. I had another little bleed (brown/pink) a couple of weeks after the heavy bleed and went straight for a private scan (would've been a three day wait for EPU, which my nerves could not take, although my pocket could have!!) and they found the remains of the clot. The dating scan a few weeks later couldn't find it so it must have reabsorbed.

Hi Marie, I remember you from my heavy bleed thread, you were very supportive. Hope you're ok and baby is doing well. How many weeks are you now?

fulllife · 03/04/2012 16:43

hmmm, did you guys have any negative side effects from bedrest?
i noticed a clot in the vein on the inside of the groin- hip about 3 days after lying down all the time and got really scared.im now moving around more and it disappeared...

I had several big bleeds starting from 12 weeks with heamatomas. I rested as much as poss for about a month then gradually did a bit more once things had settled down. It's horrible I sympathise but I don't think bed rest is necessarily the best option- as you say blood clots are the last thing you want and gentle exercise keeps everything moving- the blood has to come out at some point. Good luck x

I rested as much as I could - but heavy bleeds happened once randomly (at a wedding) and the other time the night after my 12 week scan so I'm sure it was the scanner thingy pushing my uterus around that set that one off.

The position and size of the heamatoma makes a difference - if it is fairly small and not under the placenta it can bleed out without causing any problems to the baby but if it is large and/or under the placenta if it gives way it can take the pregnancy with it.

I just did a bit less than usual - also flew - but then no-one had said anything about that. Had stand up row with mil over this as well when she wanted me to move large heavy object she herself had earlier brought into the house. Dh was stood next to her. I was supposed to do it. Have never forgiven that tbh
I bled from 8 weeks to about 15 and then no further problems. Was v scary. Hang on in there

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 03/04/2012 22:12

Had this with ds2. Its so worrying I sympathise completely. I was signed off work and told to take things easy. No heavy lifting, nothing too strenuous.

You wouldn't need to tell me twice to have bed rest! Me and my pillow meet occasionally Grin

Very hard to take it easy with a lo though. My ds2 is also 8 months and I'm pg again. Can't imagine taking it easy! Hope you have lots of support and hope all works out well for you x

welliesandpyjamas, I am 13 weeks 4 days. I feeling OK, then this morning I woke up in a pool of blood Sad. I just don't know what to do and I don't know why this is happening to me.

Bearcrumble · 04/04/2012 09:15

I'm so sorry Marie and fullife that you're having such a worrying time. Marie can you go in to your EPU and get scanned today?

My heavy bleeding stopped after the second big bleed - went to A+E, had loads of cramps and passed a clot. There was a bit of spotting up to about 18-20 weeks but the pregnancy ended with a live baby who is now a happy, boisterous 2 year old. I am positive that you will both have happy outcomes, I'm sure it is the most likely situation.

welliesandpyjamas · 04/04/2012 16:18

Ah, marie, you poor thing, it must be so horrible for you! What does your doc say? Is there a specialist you can see?

Dhano21 · 10/03/2021 18:44
