Hi Ladies,

Have had quite annoying itching recently and i think its been down to my dry skin.
I was wanting some advice on some good moisturisers that are ok for our sensitive skin and ok for baby.

I know cocoa butter is the weapon of choice but I cant stand the smell.

I'm not so fussed about stretch-marks more the moisturising factor!

Ive recently bought some coconut and almond moisturising butter- does anyone know if this is suitable or good/bad for me

Hope a few others will find this post useful too!!

Much love- the itchy ape woman! x

I swear by Cetraben. It is fragrance free and super moisturising. Initially my GP prescribed it for dry skin causing ezcema. And now I use it all over for my preggy itches. I get a HUGE tub on prescription, so if your itch is bad enough, your GP may prescribe you some too. I don't know if you can buy it without a prescription though.....

I use almond oil which is fab. You can also then use it for your perineal massage later on. Cheap, natural & does the job Smile

sparklekitty · 02/04/2012 17:31

I have the same problem. I've never had dry skin until now and it's just my back and tummy. Driving me insane.

I've been using bio oil but if you don't like the smell of coca butter you might not like this either, plus it's expensive. I'm thinking about switching to E45 cream, can get huge tubs in boots for next to nothing and it doesn't really smell either.

madaboutmadmen · 02/04/2012 17:34

I've been using my DS's Aveeno cream, lovely stuff

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 02/04/2012 17:43

Second the rec for almond oil - rub it on after your shower onto damp skin and you will be glowing! I like to add some essential oil to mine for the smell.

FutureNannyOgg · 02/04/2012 18:04

I love the Mum to Be organics (part of the Little Me organics range, you can get it in Boots and Asda) stretch mark oil for general moisturising, it has rose hip oil in it IIRC, and it's really nice.

SleepyFergus · 02/04/2012 18:18

I use Boots mango body butter. Smells good enough to eat, and soaks in beautifully. Not expensive either and a big tub lasts ages.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 02/04/2012 18:35

Not just me then! Itchy legs are driving me crazy so will grab some almond oil ASAP!

bananarama05 · 02/04/2012 18:39

Palmers do a fragrance free cocoa butter which is fab if you can't stand the smell of the stuff, like me.

I got a little bit addicted to The Sanctuary body butter I got in a pregnancy gift set, can't remember exactly what its called sorry, but the packaging is purple and I know you can get it from boots.

thereistheball · 02/04/2012 18:54

i second the Cetraben suggestion. It's available over the counter, isn't expensive, and is what you would be prescribed for itchy dry skin.

ellesbell · 02/04/2012 19:47

To relieve itching (Have had a very angry rash on my legs)I have recently been using Derma mum cooling gel. It really helps

littlemissnormal · 02/04/2012 21:06

Bio oil is fab and although it's not cheap 1 bottle has lasted me 3 months cos you need so little.
The other fab thing I've tried is waitrose own brand baby butter which is less than £3 a tub, smells lush and is really thick and goes a long way.

surfmama · 02/04/2012 22:12

hello little i use almond oil also and waitrose do a coconut oil in baby section. It is really nice, just a bit of vanilla added for smell. I pop it on rad whilst in bath/shower and it melts just enough to have a lovely rub doesn't sit on skin and make it all smoothy.. no idea what to do about my hands though nothing seems to work except horrid chemical hand creams...

SarryB · 03/04/2012 11:13

E45 cream - slightly medical, but it does wonders for my itchy boobs.

bettybat · 03/04/2012 13:10

I use coconut oil - the kind you eat? Coconut oil is the elixir of the gods, it's amazing. You can use it for anything - Malaysian midwives even use it for binding post pregnancy.

Just thought people might be interested to know, I'm currently 23 wks pg, & have been suffering with very itchy/dry legs for a couple of weeks. I emailed my doctor to mention this, & to cut a long story short, I've just found out that my thyroid gland is failing, & I have to start medication tomorrow (no previous thyroid issues). So if anyone's really suffering with itching, please speak to your doctor, as my doctor said that the baby only gets thyroid hormones from mum, so it's vital to get treatment ASAP. I don't want to scare anyone, but had no idea something as simple as itching could be a symptom of such a thing.

Seconding E45.

Tweedledeedum · 04/04/2012 12:33

I was given as a gift from my MIL in a mother to be pack, it's not the cheapest, but highly recommend the Neal's Yard Mothers Balm, is super thick and wherever you put it stays moisturised for ages, plus all organic and natural ingredients.
