Sorry for the tone of this topic, I am 15 weeks pregnant and have had IBS for a number of years, my main problem is that I cannot go to the toilet and I'm starting to feel ill.

As you can imagine, this has been made worse by pregnancy.

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow, but I was wondering if there are any others with similar problems to me?

What foods have you used to alleviate it? Prunes are not working!!

I had to take lactulose whilst pregnant to soften things up a bit.

Kiwis, big ripe juicy ones.

You may find though that pregnancy eases up the symptoms of IBS. for a few months I had barely any flare ups. Bliss:)

I also have severe IBS and my doctor and midwife told me it was fine to take dulcolax. Nothing else makes my bowel move. It's too strong a laxative for your average person but for me it's fine and at 20 weeks I've been using it a couple of times a week to no I'll effect. It's actually listed in the NHS book you get in your bounty pack as being fine to take. However as always discuss it with your doctor.

The bonus of being pregnant is that the normal
Bloating you get just looks like a bigger bump!

hi vos i hadn't had ibs since i was about 19 - except just when my period came, now 38 with first and have been in such a bad way with it all, and now have to take iron which I was in agony with yesterday... so my sympathies to you. can you take some probiotics? they do help me, along with no wheat or dairy, cooking my fruit and having lots of whole grains and simple foods. fell of wagon as moved house this weekend, bacon sarnies and white bread, cheeses and bread etc and am paying for it... so much so that I by passed to invite to pancake cafe today and went home for quinoa topped with cooked fruit yoghurt nuts and a bit of honey, feel much better for it.

I use lactulose as well- has worked wanders. Also don't know if this will help or not but i had quite bad IBS before having DD but during/after pregnancy it pretty much cleared up (still suffer occasionally with constipation though!). Hope things improve for you soon.
