Can't be of any direct help but it is nice to meet someone else whose waters didn't break. My first labour started with my waters breaking and DS was born less than 2 hours later. We were told to ring the midwife as soon as the waters went for the next one, all well and good but they didn't go! DD1 was born in her sack about 45 mins from the first contraction. With DD2 I was high risk and induced so they broke my waters to try and start me off so I don't know if they would have held out or not!

I did find that DD1 didn't have that squashed newborn look as she had been cushioned I guess. She was also covered in vernix which the other two weren't.

So your baby was "born in the caul" as midwives say. It's not a problem as long as the waters are broken at birth. When the membranes are left unbroken they often go naturally during the second stage .....but not always.
Yes it could happen again but not necessarily.

Every labour is different, that said:

My mum: had 3DC and her waters never broke.

Myself: waters didn't break with DS, and I am now pregnant again so we shall have to wait and see :)

dc1 they went some point in early labour, don't know when as I never realised. Assume therefore it was when I was throwing up in the bath Grin.

dc2 they went just as I got the urge to push.

dc3 they went during the day before I went into labour and generally dribbled all bloody day and made me go into hospital for monitoring.

with dd my waters were broken for me as labour wasnt pregressing past 4cm.

and im 39+2 so we shall see what happens this time midwife told me most waters dont gp until established labour and this is often best as it cushions the baby bouncing on.your cervix slightly more comfertable?????

they popped as her head was coming out. but they said this was probably why the pushing/pain was so intense. did it naturally but that pain was bloomin ouch!lol
