Advice on bottles

Evening all.

DH and I are looking at bottles/sterilisers, and we could do with some advice.

Has anyone used the Nuby naturals ones from Boots? If so pros/cons? How many did you get in each size?

Also, any recommendations on other bottles would be great :)

Thank you x

Are they the ones which bottle is a soft flexible rubber/plastic?

I bought some on a whim to try and they were boots. If it is those I didn't like them and baby didn't take to the teat. But he was already used to tommee tipee closer to nature so he just didn't like the change.

I think most bottles now are much the same. I prefer tt as they are hard wearing and you can get a formula dispenser which sits inside the bottle for when you're out and about.

Dr browns I found were fantastic but never really got the knack to stop them leaking. But great for wind in babies, literally an overnight cure.

i prefered avent bottles as my daughter had terrible sickness and these helped ease it off they were brilliant bottles once we knew it was the cheaper ones that were fast flow that made her sick

We used tommee tippee closer to nature with no probs. Not the anti colic plus ones though (too fiddly to wash) just the normal ones with a little valve in the teat. Used them for ds1 who was mix fed.

My sister swore by Dr Browns to help with wind/colic after trying lots of other brands so I'll be getting a couple of these, although hoping to BF :)

Awh thank you for all of your advice. Do most bottles fit into most sterilisers? Or do you need to get the same one as the make of bottle? x

Have the avent microwave steriliser - brill -'all done in 6 mins. I use the mam bottles and love them as you can put one on its own in the microwave and it self sterilises without having to be in special steriliser. Great if you are out and about. I put the mam bottles in the avent steriliser when I have a few to do at a time.

Tommee Tippee here both times. They're nice and compact for a start. Avent ones always look like someone's put a teat on a litre Coke bottle! :o

DairyNips · 31/03/2012 22:59

We had a tommee tippee cold water steriliser. You could use it as a steam one in the microwave also it if you're using one everyday I'd say cold water is better as you can just wash the bottles when you've used them and stick them in, if you're using Milton they'll be sterilised in 15 mins and no need to rinse (some other sterilising solutions take 30 mins and have to be rinsed off). You just change the solution once every 24 hrs I think (says so on the solution bottle). Look out for baby events at your local supermarkets, they usually have sterilisers on offer.

I use the Philip's Avent microwave steriliser and their 9oz bottles. Imo its better to buy the 9oz bottles as my DS had a lot of milk early on so the newborn size bottles are too small. I use these for water now. You can buy different sized teats to fit the bottles. Not had any issues with this range at all.

I have used tommee tippee closer to nature with both dd's and have brought them again for this dc as I have never had any issues with these. Did try dd on others but they wasn't keen.

Another vote for tommee tippee ones. I found the Avent ones were prone to leaking.

hippieshake · 01/04/2012 15:38

I ordered the tommee tippee closer to nature complete starter kit. Amazon are selling it for £65!!

I support the tommee tipple selection whole-heartedly, although only used them occassionally with DD as she was breastfed. Also had the electric steam steriliser, which was a bit bulky, but could sterilise lots (like my breast shells & pump plus a bottle).

DairyNips · 01/04/2012 17:55

Great stuff!Smile

danielou · 01/04/2012 18:26

Bargain hippieshake I just paid £100 for same set wish I looked on amazon now :(

Another vote for Tommee Tippee, we've had no problems with them with babe and they come in smaller and larger sizes, the small ones are good when baby is little. We bought the starter pack which had the steam sterilizer, eight bottles, a bottle warmer, those warm bag things you put the bottles in when you go out, and little pots for taking powder out with you, and we use pretty much all of it. I like the steam sterilizer because its so quick, if you do have a cock-up and run out of bottles they are done in a few minutes.
