Safe dose of vit b6 for morning sickness?

Hello,

I am suffering horribly with morning sickness and have just found out that vitamin b6 can help, if taken in doses of 50mg or more.

Just been to Tesco, where they only sell 10mg tablets, and the pharmacist said they couldn't sell higher doses without a prescription.

Now, I've done a bit of research, and there don't seem to be an adverse effects until you get to 400mg +, and the American guidelines recommend much higher doses. But I'm a bit hesitant.

Does anyone have any experience of taking this?

UK very low limits are controversial, were huge debates about it at the time they came in. I know I had 50-150 mg/daily, parts of first trimester, 2 pregnancies(?) no regrets (& I do think that helped with MS). I don't know recent research so am not sure what latest thinking would be.

It didn't work for me. But give it a go. I bought 25mg from somewhere, holland and Barratt, I think.

Hmm. I can get 50mg from holland and barrett so will try one of those a day. I'm really hoping this works!

hey fruity

Have you thought about asking your GP to prescribe? Don't forget there are anti sickness medications they can give you if you are really bad

ginger. I've been buying roots of fresh ginger, cubing it and bunging it in the freezer. Sucking on iced lumps of ginger is really soothing.

i bought this it definitely helped for about a week, maybe 10 days, and then the sickness went back to how it is was before again :(

Unfortunately ginger makes me worse, possibly because I really hate it.

Don't think I'm bad enough to get meds - I'm not being sick much, it's just horrible all day nausea.

Anyway, dh has come back now with the pills, so I will let you know if they work!

Hello Foof! Didn't see you there, sorry. I must catch up with the antenatal thread, haven't been on for ages. Too busy feeling sorry for myself!

I didn't get sickness but got very bad nausea all day and night from 5-11 weeks but b6 really helped.

I tried it and whilst it took a couple of days to work - whenever I stopped it, it got worse again after a day or so. I read that you shouldn't take more than 100mg a day.

I took 10mg about 5 times a day and it worked much better than taking it all in one go. I took 1 in the middle of the night when I woke up, 10 mg with breakfast as part of my pre-natals, one at lunch, one late afternoon and one just before bed.

I am now 22 weeks and all is looking good.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 31/03/2012 16:19

That's good to hear Lig. Wish I was 22 weeks!

I read somewhere that ginger works if you feel warm a lot of the time, otherwise peppermint for cold hearted bitches like me people :)
