Best sleeping position to avoid painful hips

I'm 33+5 with DC2 and having problems sleeping (who doesn't!).
Obv I can only lie on my sides but this puts all my weight on my hips, by morning I can barely get out of bed due to the aches.
I have a pillow between my knees but doesn't seem to help much anymore.
Any ideas?

I'm sorry you are suffering so much and I am not sure there is a lot you can do.

I found that heat packs helped with SPD. Have you seen an obstetic physio? Are you still working?

It's hideous isn't it? I have a folded up duvet underneath my side of the bed, it does help cushion things a bit.

I'm a SAHM with 20mo DD - that's not helping either as she particularly enjoys being chased at the moment Hmm Grin

It does ease once I've been up & about a bit so not sure if it's SPD, I know that can be horrendous.
Sad

bobby I've found a pillow behind me is as important as inbetween my legs. I sort of wedge it under my lower back/bum and hip and it gives a bit of relief and extra support.

Thanks will try that too. Might have to push DH out of bed to make room for all these pillows Wink

And don't forget a pillow for the bump too! Seriously, it really helps stop you being pulled in weird ways while you sleep.

Imnotaslimjim · 29/03/2012 14:31

Try rolling u pa duvet, lying it in front of you then throwing your top leg over it. Wriggle about to get it all comfy and I almost guarantee that you won't move all night (unless you need to pee lol)

I had severe SPD with my DD, and that was one of the only ways I got comfy. The other way was on my back with my knees bent and the duvet tucked under my knees. That kept my hips locked so it wasn't as painful to get up

I used to use one of those big pregnancy pillows that wraps round under your legs & up to be a pillow, but I found it so cumbersome!
No chance of sleeping on my back, the weight of the bump makes it v uncomfy already Sad
Siiiiiigh.

Hiya,
I sleep with a thick pillow between my thighs right up to my groin, it feels much more supportive than just between my knees. I then have a stiff pillow behind my back, and this wedge pillow under my bump. It's quite a palaver turning over in bed but I only do it 2 or three times a night. Oh, and I sleep in the spare room as DH doesn't like only having 6 inches of bed. Hope you find a comfy position soon!

I had the exact same thing (was SPD) and all my SPD symptoms improved massively when we switched to a foam mattress halfway through my pregnancy. It was honestly worth the £££s.

blackteaplease · 29/03/2012 15:56

I slept with a pillow under my hips for extra cushioning and also one behind me to stop me rolling onto my back the first time.
