Blooming heck who would have thought a bit of trapped wind could cause so much discomfort! I'm 11 weeks today with first dc and have suffered trapped wind on and off for a while, but the last few days It's got much worse, to the point where I'm doubled up with bad tummy ache. Oh the relief when it finally works its way out!!

Has anyone else been suffering? And does anyone have any good remedies?

Not had it for a while, but I did have it earlier on and it is very painful!

Rennie Deflatine works really well for me (and the name always makes me laugh!).

Hope it passes soon!!!

Lie on left side knees up to chest. Drink hot water. Squats.

Get on your hands and knees and rock, thrusting your bum in the air. Disclaimer, only do this at home you do not want to be caught by your staff doing this in the office. Grin

I posted a few weeks ago about how i thought i was going into labour in the middle of mothercare, cold sweats, needing to wee everything, they even got me a chair as i was in so much pain, i managed to get the toilet and proceeded to do the longest fart ever in the history of farting...... yanbu it bloody hurts!

I have been through childbirth and for me with this second pregnancy, trapped wind is worse than a contraction!!!

Thanks ladies!

Think I'll be heading out to get some Rennie Deflatine in my lunch hour. That'll be nice for my colleagues this afternoon when they start to work!! Grin

Perhaps I could go on Britain's Got Talent and fart a little tune - that would wipe the smile off Amanda Holden's face!!

Vix - I did read about your incident in Mothercare, made me chuckle.

Rennies do bugger all for me, sob :(
I have good success with peppermint tea, stretching up to the ceiling a few times, and also a good old baby-style winding tummy rub :)

I don't know whether it was coincidence or not, but I started drinking a glass of prune juice every morning and I haven't had major problems since (I had about a week of real discomfort verging on pain that would just not go away).

I had really bad trapped wind during the first few weeks,
Tried some pregnancy friendly stool softeners but had the worst diarrheao in my life! sorry TMI!

I found going for a walk and stretching really helped!
I would often be in pain at work, and then when it came to walking home, as I walked up the hill to my house- it all came out!!
Is your diet a lot different to how it used to be? If you're eating shed loads of fruit and veg your body may be adapting to it.

Also I avoided fizzy drinks at all costs!
Luckily my wind only lasted about 3 or 4 weeks but i can still parp a good tune!

I've had trapped wind before although it was not during pregnancy, it was after a laparoscopy. I was in so much pain I nearly phoned an ambulance, I couldn't catch a breath and thought there was something seriously wrong. I found sipping hot water helped and also had dh rubbing my back in a really strong downward motion helped a lot. Think peppermint tea is meant to be good too. Poor you I totally sympathise how sore it can be

BlueCrane · 02/04/2012 18:58

Get to the doctors and ask them to prescribe some Lactulose for you...or you might even be able to get it over the counter in Boots. My DH calls it the 'evil juice' but I think it's amazing!! The reason for DH's perspective is that it is very effective at helping the trapped wind (and associated constipation) out...but the gas released can be a little toxic on the smell front Blush I obviously think it's amazing as the relief on getting rid of the trapped wind is amazing...in fact I think I'm going to have to indulge in some again tonight as am in agony...again...currently 31+6 and have been suffering with this on and off since about week 16 Sad
