After chemical pregnancies/early losses at about five weeks in both January and February I have just had a really convincing strong bfp in the middle of the afternoon at only 11 dpo. Of course I could be wrong and I'm certainly going to wait a couple of weeks before seeing the GP but I feel much more positive about this one. In both the last two months I held off buying anything to read because I just felt unsure for some reason. But this time I do feel ready to find out a bit more.

So - what pregnancy books did you find helpful and can recommend? I tried looking on Amazon but there are just so many.

I like the Mumsnet one, it is funny in parts and also informative

What to Expect when you are Expecting is very detailed and pretty much tells you anything you might want to know on a month by month basis. I find it a bit americanized, in that the book seems to assume you have a choice of doctors and sometimes I found the writing style a bit irritating. however, as I say, it is very very detailed.

I went for mostly books about birth

My faves were

Childbirth without fear

And

Inna mays book on birth

What to Expect When You're Expecting is the one I used last time round and I found it very clear and easy to read as well as being plenty detailed.

I had What to Expect When You're Expecting.

Lots of well explained detail, easy to read, mostly split into month by month, and has a good index at the back.

The one that milk linked to is lovely for the photographs. I have that one and it's lovely to look at the pictures and see how the baby is developing, especially in the early stages when you haven't seen a scan yet.

I have the dk book your pregnancy week by week. Well laid out with lots of pictures good for finding out how your baby is developing and nice to show to dh. Also have the mumsnet book which is an entertaining read.

Also agree with the rough guide to pregnancy, it's informative but light-hearted, not overly medicalised and easy to read.

Good luck!

Another vote for What to Expect, it's the only one I bought and it's all you need really. Best of luck!

Another vote for the Rough Guide to Pregnancy, its easy to read and fun. I found What to Expect... very dry but it will be handy as a reference guide perhaps.

Thanks all. I'll buy a couple of those. I like the look of the Mumsnet one and also one with good pictures.
