Is this "normal" SPD or should I see GP or MW?

I'm 31 weeks pg and most of the pregnancy have had what I think is mild SPD. This has been predominantly pain in buttocks and pain / stiffness when moving legs (usually first thing in the morning and in the evening).
Over the last couple of weeks this has got gradually worse and I've also started to get quite sharp pains right in my groin / vaginal area when walking. This is worse this morning and hasn't eased up as the day has gone on. Walking is really quite painful.
Does this sound like SPD or should I go and see GP or MW?

It does sound like it could be SPD, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go to the GP/MW.

AFAIK, SPD is not like round ligament pain/braxton hicks - it's not normal in pregnancy, just fairly common. Pretty much all SPD advice is to seek help ASAP, as it can help it to not get any worse or even get better! There are lots of things you can do to prevent and (to a greater or lesser extent) to treat it - i.e. exercises, things to avoid, support belts etc.

So definitely tell someone - especially as walking is painful - and hopefully you can get some good help. It's horrible (I have had it before and currently getting it again) but for most people it resolves very quickly after the birth. Let me know if you'd like any more info - and the pelvic partnership has a really good website.

Also suffering with this, but haven't really followed it up, after originally phoning and them giving a physio appointment 2 weeks later. I was in agony at the time and just despaired at being told such a long time ahead.
Bought a support belt, read lots of advice on what not to do.. and its manageable.
If you need a bit of relief, getting on your hands and knees helped me a lot...

check with your MW, but it does sound like SPD to me.

I didn't/don't find any of the NHS treatments any use but have had miraculous results from chiropractic treatment. I've heard other people have had good results from osteopath too.

Thank you for your replies.

Have just been stood up at work for about an hour and not as bad as it was. I've now got an hour's drive to get DS from nursery so will see whether that makes it worse again Hmm

Yes - an hour of sitting down and driving and it was just as bad again :( I need to work out whether it's driving that particularly aggravates it or sitting down.

Do tell someone! You'll want it in your notes come labour time, at the very least. You should avoid doing things that make it hurt -- SPD can be aggravated and get worse if you're not careful. I can trace step-changes in my condition to dumb decisions.

Also it's good to get the physio involved. I was given a bunch of exercises that seemed rather pointless, but I notice things are significantly worse if I skip them for a few days.
