Get thee to the doctors!

I have had long bouts of thrush throughout my adult life and its miserable. Pessaries, etc have never worked. There is a tablet (was called Diflucan) that worked brilliantly for a while on me but then stopped working. Not sure whether you will be offered that if pregnant but GP will know.
Now I have to go completely (and I mean completely) sugar-free. Its hard but it works after 2-3 weeks. If there is no sugar there is nothing for the yeast to feed on. However I do lose weight as everything has sugar in it so maybe not good if pregnant.

Hopefully the doctor will sort you out much quicker and more easily.

I have had it particularly badly at different times. If you've done the deed make sure he's got canestan cream on now or he will get it. My dh tells me I've got it before I know sometimes. When I had it chronically the gp gave me the oral blue flaconazole tablet too. I had that and the course of pessaries and the 2per cent cream, which is stronger. My gp thought it was hormonal. He then decided to give me one pill a week for 3 months to make sure was well and truly out my system as a prevention. Also I used to have to he really careful about diet. Those drinks are good but my kids nicked them too! White wine is a no go, White bread and mushrooms as high yeast content so avoid. No baby oil shinanagons! I just wash with sanex now and don't use any perfumes what so ever. Also tights are a no go! One consultant actually told me to iron my knickers, but I think that's a step too far Grin

I had it constantly during pregnancy, the only thing that relieved it was the pessary and external cream. My doctor gave me a prescription for several tablets and cream to save me a bit of money. Some pharmasists won't sell you the pessary or cream if you're pregnant.

The good news is that it went as soon as baby was born so there is something else to look forward to.

You can get probiotic tablets which are stronger than the drinks and less likely to get taken by the children!

You'll need to get to the doctor as pharmacists won't sell anything for thrush to pregnant ladies. Also your DH will need to be treated or you'll just pass it back and forth.

Don't let any soap near the area, washing with water is adequate as we are designed to be self cleaning. Likewise no bubble baths- they're a one way ticket to thrush central. If I feel a bout coming on I rinse down with a touch of distilled white vinegar and tea tree in warm water a couple of times and that seems to stop it in its tracks. Then just keep clean by pouring water over the area after having a wee a couple of times a day- I keep a jug in the bathroom for that purpose. Dry very gently. I got it a lot in early pregnancy but since I started that regime it has been so much better.

Your DH needs to take the diflucan pill as it is likely he is reinfecting you.
They will not give you the oral tablet in pregnancy either but can give you a swab to be sure it is thrush and not another infection. Ask your MW. You could also try a few drops of tea tree oil in your bath, as well as the cutting down/ cutting out of sugar and yeast as recommended above.
I feel for you, it really is horrid.

the midwife will help with thrudh too but if the pesteries and cream arnt shifting it doc may do swabs I had this on my first pregnancy and it turned out to be a slightly different form of thrush that needed different cream also you and your partner will keep passing it back and forth if he dosent use the cream too even if he has no syptoms.

The gp gave me the tablet last time I was pregnant. I would be prone to thrush anyway and know that creams/pessaries don't work for me. Don't worry about going to your doc, it's quite common in pregnancy so they've heard it all before.

Yes your dh will definately need to treated also. Men can be symptomless but are harbouring it and you'll be passing it back and forth like ping pong. Both of you get treated at the same time and no sex for about a week after.

Spiritedwolf · 24/03/2012 11:22

Is it always thrush? Itchiness I mean?

I get it quite a bit and sometimes use the cream to soothe but it tends to go away if I can avoid rubbing it for long enough (few days) and make sure I'm washing gently with water etc.

I'm wondering if my body just doesn't like me wearing (tena-like) pads so much and just gets uncomfy.

Oddly enough the last time it got better after sex... Blush my body is very weird at the moment.

I do find certain sanitary wear ESP if it's got high plastic content a complete no go! Have you tried the breathable liners that are cotton like? Also stay away from anything that states laundry fresh Grin

Just a side thought but make sure you speak to your midwife about possible gestational diabetes as well, 5 episodes of thrush started the ball rolling to diagnose mine
