Warning this post contains a rant:
Why is baby bedding so over priced? I did my bedding shop today & think it's a total joke that they are charging £90 for a bedding set which isn't even a necessity, £40 for a blanket/ sheet set, £15 for a tiny little sheet, £15 for a blanket with holes in it, £20 for a water proof fitted sheet etc!!
I don't understand why baby bedding which has less than a third the material than adult bedding costs more!
I was looking in babies r us, but mamas & papas, mothercare etc are all roughly the same prices!
I'm would consider myself tight, but I was wondering around the shops today thinking how unfair it is that they charge so much for baby "essentials".
I saw a family really struggling with money today, adding up everything and the mum to be was feeling so guilty cos she couldn't buy all the crap the shop say is a must have, I really felt for her & it pissed me off - she shouldn't not have to feel like that it's not fair!

I had a £75 voucher which I won from bounty, and was shocked that I came away with hardly anything, & it wasn't even like I was spending my own money so shouldnt have cared.

Anyway if uv had a long day and fancy ranting about prices or anything climb aboard the most miserable thread on mumsnet - I feel better already lol

I am totally in 100% agreement! I been saying this for weeks, its disgusting what they charge for baby things, prams, beds, bedding, etc. Its like they are taking advantage of a time you are going to need money. We decided not to buy the duvet sets, as they cant really use them at birth anyway so bought some nice blankets and fleeces from other shops (i find the commercialsied shops like mothercare/mamas and papas over priced for simpe things like blankets) Like you justhayley we not tight but when you can get the same stuff elsewhere half the price, then why not.

Asda do bedding. I think it was £4 a blanket or 2 for £6 or something. It isn't necessarily that expensive, if you shop around, use the cheap shops & online. It is ludicrous but you don't have to he sucked in, there are other options!! Happy hunting :)

I found some nice cot bed sets in matalan for £40, although still havent decided which 1 to get im in no rush as someone else said theyre in them from birth.

but to add to the rant thing, £15 for a pack of 3 sleepsuits in mothercare (dont get me started on the bed in a bag set from there too thats currently £125). i wouldnt mind paying for some stuff if it was an enjoyable experience but the staff or so called customer service team look like theyre shackled to their tills and are being forced to work there, no other excuse for looking soooooo miserable all day long at whatever time of day i go in!

asda are good for baby stuff. Luckily i work in a shop so i'll be getting my sleepsuits and stuff from there at discounted price, noway am i paying mamas and papas prices lol.

Grin glad I'm not just being a miserable cow & other people agree. Thanks for the tips I will look about in asdas. There's new cellular blankets on eBay at the moment for 3.99p - more like it.
To be honest If I hadn't had the voucher to use I probably wouldn't have spent anything in babies r us, the prices are really unfairly high. The only thing that I think is a great deal is £5 for a box of 6 packets of johnsons baby wipes. I bought a few of these - not just for the baby but I use them to take off makeup as well so that was a good deal. Also their nappies are cheaper than the supermarkets at the moment so I stocked up on those - so it wasn't all bad ...... And I did buy a pack of mini rubber bath ducks for £3 lol

You can usually get boxes of Pampers sensitive baby wipes containing either 9 or 12 for about £8 or 2 packs of 6 multibuy for about the same price in the supermarkets. I was told about using My Supermarket website to do your weekly online shop as it compares all the big stores; might be north checking nappy & wipes prices there?

Also, use cotton wool & water on a newborn. Cheaper & kinder to the delicate skin. If its your first, you may not want to go anywhere special at first, so you will have access to water etc easily. After the first week or two, you'll prob be more adventurous & will then need wipes.

Also, look for a little huggies wipes box: comes with a little pack of wipes but the tub can be re-used with wipes when you're out and about.

Sainsbury does 3 LARGE (i.e 18-24m) sleepsuits/babygrows for £12 I think, so smaller sizes will be much cheaper. Asda do clothes too at reasonable prices.

I would totally recommend not buying too much & ignoring most of those shop lists as you won't use a lot of stuff or will change your mind.

Also, sign up to as many emails/groups whatever to get as many vouchers as possible. You don't have to be loyal to one brand on most things!!
